ALSO! In the scene with Thorfinn, right after Knut's final scene where he says "I feel good", there is an incredibly subtle detail I didnt notice until the third time watching this show, but that little detail is so beautiful. I think it has more effect when you realize on your own, but do tell if you want me to tell you!

The thing Knut says to Thorfinn has a slightly different translation on Netflix which makes more sense imo. He says "You have really learned your way with words. I wonder where you got that from." It's always been Askeladd who was the silver tongue in Thorfinn's life. He learned so much from Thors, but Thors did NOT have a way with words (proven in the scene where Helga just automatically understands what Thors want to say to Thorfinn). One of the things Thors said in the beginning is "I still don't know how to be a true warrior" because he never fully learned how to use words. And what's so paradoxically poetic is that Askeladd is the one that filled that final missing piece of becoming a true warrior, within Thorfinn.

The thing is, Canute always had it in his heart, he just lost himself. When you're surrounded by people who do things a certain way, it's easy to get caught up in it. Like, Vikings forcing their will on others. Rather than be the one person to say, "No, we're not doing it like that anymore.", he kind of got caught up in it. Still though, Canute wasn't fully lost. When they raided Ketil's farm he specifically told his warriors that they are NOT to steal and pillage. He even got upset when he saw some of them doing so. Mind you, the last time Canute saw Thorfinn, Thorfinn was a savage. There was nothing in his mind other than revenge and killing. (for the most part) So, when Canute has this conversation with Thorfinn who's asking for Canute to spare the farm and end this all in a peaceful manner, refusing to fight, it wakes Canute up again. If Thorfinn, this savage warrior, can change then perhaps there's hope. Perhaps the way Canute has been doing things is wrong. Forcing/manipulating people because it's easier than negotiating peacefully. But like I said, Canute always had it in his heart. It's just difficult to stick to your convictions when you're surrounded by people who do things a different way. Thorfinn reminded him that even some of the worst people can change on their own. This is my take on it.
