I saw someone else say this regarding Ketil a while ago but it stuck with me. The character Ketil exists to demonstrate that there is no such thing as a "good slave owner". Just the concept of owning a person makes you a horrible human being. Even if he is treating Thorfinn and Einar "well", and even if he adores Arnheid, he still controls Thorfinn and Einar's conditions, and he raped Arnheid numerous times because that intimacy definitely did not happen by her own will.

You've finally reached this episode. At the end of the day, Ketil is a slave owner no matter how nice he was to them. And he would rape Arnheid. She would not have sex with him if she had a choice. She was married.
