danzo was a complete coward... he didnt save a single person, like ever. the konoha village was destroyed and he was no where to be found, and then pointed fingers afterwards.

In politics, war, leading a nation (village) there's a need for doing "dirty" and "dark" things like espionage, gathering intel, assassination etc which are bad things but they serve a purpose and unfortunately without them it is harder (maybe impossible?) to lead and protect a country. Hiruzen (the 3rd) inherited the light, the side that gets all the praise the one allowed to be the bigger man and do things the "right" way. He can do it because there is a dark side in the shadow that does all the things that we don't want to hear about but is unfortunately usually necessary. That was Danzo, leading the foundation, doing all the ugly things to (as the name shows) be the foundation upon which a better world can be built. His character was flawed but he accepted his mission and did what he thought was best for the village. On a side note, yes he gave Itachi that mission but don't forget, if he didn't then the Uchiha would've revolted and cause a war inside the village where countless people would've lost their lives. Was there another way? Perhaps, perhaps not but in war and politics you are usually not allowed the luxury of hindsight and have to react quickly. To further emphasize this: Itachi also agreed and thought it was necessary since he did it without a second thought.

Danzo, Madara, and Orochimaru are responsible for many of the atrocities that have occurred in the ninja world but the way Danzo goes about things just makes him less likeable than either of the others. Not to mention that he's supposedly on the Leaf's side but he has worked with both of those other individuals to further his own goals. Madara with the Uchiha massacre, and Orochimaru with the experimentation he did on him. The treatment of his subordinates is another thing worth mentioning. The psychological damage done to a character like Sai was basically 100% Danzo's doing. He cares about the Leaf as an organization, but does not care about the people who make it what it is and he will trample over them if it's for the sake of what he deems as important for the village. It's honestly quite sad how he never seemed to grasp that or the Will of Fire in general. He shows his true colors at the end, but it doesn't take away from not just what he DID, but what he didn't do. All those times the Leaf Village got attacked and he just stayed in his little hole underground. Even though the character wasn't introduced until Shippuden, I'd be inclined to believe that he either worked with Orochimaru for the attack on the Leaf back in Part 1 or he knew about it and didn't do anything to stop it from happening. It seems odd since the village was supposedly going to be annihilated, but knowing him he wanted Hiruzen out of the way anyhow. He probably didn't expect Orochimaru to retreat after their fight, and was planning on jumping in to "save the day" lol. Just a little headcanon of mine since it lines up with his behavior in Pain's assault on the village

All the flashback did is show that Danzo has always been a hypocrite, talking about self sacrifice, having others do it while himself stayed a coward. The more you learn about Danzo, the more you will hate him.

That night he killed her by using a genjutsu on her where they marry, have kids and they grow old together. She died of old age in genjutsu but took just seconds to die irl.
