I’m dense when it comes to reading small details such as that(I too missed those hints my first time watching) but that makes me feel much better when I find things out for the first time.

Also you're not dumb, we didn't know about Naruto's parents up til now and definitely not that Jiraiya gave his name. And just an advice: pause and rewind if you have to, these parts are important to understand since they give so much to the story. We don't mind, just pause, think about it, rewind to see it again. This is how we all did it. :)

Last episode they kinda announced it when Tsunade and Jiraiya were talking on that bench but this episode is what officially confirmed it. Also did you catch that Jiraiya was the one that gave Naruto his name? Another thing from last episode you really should look back on is the reveal of Pain you missed a big namedrop there as well.

That's why you really need to pay attention to details becasue last 2 episodes you missed some from Pain and Tobi's reveal. Also one of the reasons why those 80 episodes are so good is this backstories and the shock those new caracters provides. And there are also the fights.
