Just gonna say this but don't go to far in trying to associate what you'll see with WW2. The creator of AoT, Hajime Isayama, is using this to draw you in but the story has nothing to do with the events of WW2 outside of mirroring what you might know about it. It's window dressing for a story that will question your perception of morality and sense of who is in the wrong versus who is in the right.
