Thinking more about the Southend doc - perhaps a Youtube series?

Hey y'all! So, my look at Arcades and the history of Southend is once again on my mind - I've been doing a fair bit of looking around recently to prepare while I save up funds for the final piece of the equipment puzzle (that being a new camera)...as I've been thinking about it, I've slowly come to the thought that a feature-length documentary might not perhaps be the initial way to go about things. That's certainly something that I want to cross off of my bucket list at one point, but I'm thinking along other lines...

So, perhaps a YouTube series might be the best thing? That way I can cover 1 arcade or other venue in depth for each episode in a proper POV style. Some videos will naturally be bigger than others (I suspect that when it comes to covering something like the Kursaal, there will be quite a lot to say) but it seems like the right approach to me...and then, perhaps at one stage in the future, I can edit all of this in something that could be feature length, something for the local festivals around here and so forth.

I guess this change in thought is inspired by the vlogging I've done recently, as well as some of the content I've been consuming - I've been watching a bunch of Dan Bell, a lot of food travel stuff, that sort of thing...so I kinda wanna do my own spin on that. It also means that instead of being this really big-ass thing that could end up taking ages to do, it's much more reactive and get up and go - and ultimately, it gets out to the viewers a hell of a lot quicker.

As previously mentioned, I'm saving up money for a camera that's gonna do these places justice, and I don't expect to be done with that until Christmas comes along and I can make a big push for that spicy holiday ad revenue...but once the ball gets rolling, I can confidently say that the series will get rolling in early 2018. It's certainly going to be exciting!

Also, I will be in Manchester next week for the Play Gaming Expo, and I will be vlogging that as much as possible - so all of you will get to see my experience oop North as a main video...in many ways, it's a bit of a test run for what's to come - that and finally going to some proper events! Anyway, thanks for reading this ramble - hope you're all good. Talk to you soon!

I think episodic breaking it down by eras or decades is going to be the way to go

Honestly, I’d reslly like that; Southend’s seafront strip has played host to a fair few birthdays during my formative years, so getting to know a bit more about the history of it would be incredible. Going episodic to begin with sounds like the way to go, partially due to the ease of discussing things in chunks rather then all at once, and because I’d imagine focusing on one venue at a time would allow for more focused coverage.
