Today we were doing a bit of brainstorming in the livestream while I worked on straitjackets, and Trotsky propose a new idea: Earmuffs! These restraints would impair the captive's ability to hear, among many, many other possibilities.
What I had in mind so far is that some indicator would pop up when a guard is passing by, looking into the cell. That indicator would come later (less time to react, or something) if the player is blindfolded, because they have to hear the guard, and then that indicator might be hidden entirely if the player is both blindfolded and earmuffed.
Additionally, we might use it to limit the player's ability to see the "noise" meter, because it's difficult to tell exactly how loud you're being when you're completely deafened.
It might also have internal speakers in the ear cups, either to distract the player with mind-numbing white noise, or use more aggressive forms of mind control.
I also drew up an attached headset microphone as a joke, but then I started thinking it might actually be a fun idea to have the captive mic'ed up so that the guards are listening in to hear if they're making any noise or struggling.
Also, there are several different versions on display here. The first one has some transparency on the headband and I thought this looked the best. Originally the whole headband was showing but that seemed goofy, so I hid the parts that should be hidden by hair. However, I wanted to strike a balance between these two, and so came up with the transparent headband version.
Which version is your favorite? Comment below if you'd like. Thanks!
