Peak Bleak Blues preview

Here's my piece: a quick look at the walking sim collection Peak Bleak Blues, which sorta functions as an ode to walking sims generally. Ragnar is working on a video about the Black Lives Matter itch.io bundle, with a bunch of contributions from different YouTubers about different games in the bundle, and this was the one I picked.
When the finished thing goes live, I'll link that as well, but here's my bit for now!

2020-08-10 15:38:56 +0000 UTCThis is kinda more what I was hoping for in no man's sky, but I've been playing that for about 20 hours now and the story feels like it's kinda getting in the way of me exploring? Maybe I'd feel differently if there was no story
2020-08-07 12:44:10 +0000 UTCI never could put my finger on why it annoyed me so much that games would get dubbed "walking simulators" when they were clearly games that were based on narrative and the occasional puzzle. Finally realized that they were actually the evolution of adventure games. It's amazing how toxic conversations about gaming taxonomy can get.

2020-08-07 12:38:35 +0000 UTCI love that you point that out, there are so many times in games where I just stop to smell flowers and let the atmosphere of a game wash over me, completely forgetting that I must do something actually "productive" and I can just be there alone with my thoughts on a stroll, that's digital flânerie at its peak.

2020-08-06 13:31:08 +0000 UTCoh I *really* like the Myst comparison - you're right, if these worlds are mostly procedurally generated, even if they contain a few purposeful design elements to 'tie it all together,' that's totally how The Art of beginning Age-writers is represented - sometimes fantastical, often unstable, sometimes fantastical. What a cool take. I think I'm gonna this up now.
