February Update: Hollow Knight is Really Good
Added 2019-03-06 19:02:10 +0000 UTCHey team, this is gonna be a quick one.
Timelines Diverge
I am sitting on the rough cut for Always a Bigger Fish while I put together a companion piece I'm calling The Origins of Conservatism. That one is underway and I'm aiming to get both released next week, but other obligations have kept me from the editing station, so we'll see if that's doable. With those online, we'll have February's and March's videos online with (hopefully) half of March still to go, so that'll give me a good headstart on April's video, which is going to be something fun, dangit!
Being ahead of schedule on a video bodes well for getting caught up on those two I owe you. If I can sneak out an extra video by the end of June but just shaving a few days here and there off my schedule, we'll be in good shape to do it a second time by the end of December.
Extra Projects
I've been making time here and there to keep pecking away at the big projects.
I've been commissioning audition sketches from artists for the narrative project since January, and just received the second wave of them and commissioned a third. This batch had some really promising stuff! I'm definitely going to end up with more artists I want to work with than I have work for them to do, which is one of those good problems, I think. I've also managed to write the first couple pages of the script, though it will definitely need revisions. My fiction writing skills are rusty!
Besides that, I've been compiling a list of potential interview subjects for the podcast, and working on my list of questions. My method has been to think of someone I'd like to talk to, imagine what I'd like to ask that person, and then generalizing the question to something I could ask anybody. This compels me to ask some folks questions that I wouldn't think of if I didn't have it in mind to ask someone else, which I think will only make the conversations more interesting.
I'm trying to talk to creative types of all practices, though I find my list lopsided in favor of YouTubers and games folks. If anyone has suggestions of folks you'd enjoy hearing me talk to, leave 'em in the comments!
The Pure Vessel
So, I know everyone else already knew this, but holy dang if Hollow Knight isn't one of the best games I've ever played. My sister got me a download code for Christmas and I only just finally booted it up in February and I love it so, so, so much. I've been going through some personal tumult of late, and being able to disappear into the world of Hallownest has been very good for me.
And now I'm hyped for Silksong.
That's all for me this month. Sorry for the tardiness! Talk soon.

2019-03-09 00:59:27 +0000 UTCI haven't read a lot of Film Critic Hulk, just because the (recently dropped) all-caps schtick made reading really hard, but what I have read seems up your street. Also, maybe an unexpected suggestion: Captain Awkward? I wouldn't be surprised if it wouldn't work, but her focus on dealing with complicated situations on the level of individuals in social groups seems maybe complementary to your societal- and subcultural-level analysis - especially when it comes to questions like "how do you (and when do you) talk about political disagreements with friends?", which you've mentioned not having much advice to give on in the Alt-Right Playbook series.
The Packbats
2019-03-06 21:30:03 +0000 UTCCrafter of card games and Twitter savant Talen Lee. Being based in Australia might make him hard to chat with, but he's a thoughtful creator and all 'round nice guy.
