December Update: Calling It Like I See It

Hey team! I can see how the rest of the month is shaping up for me, so I'm doing our December update a little early.

Holiday Vacay

As of last night, I am in California to visit friends and family for the holidays. I will get back to Boston with about five days to spare before January. While I have a draft of the next script done and I'm quite happy with it, looking at how much editing I can conceivably do during those five days, I don't see getting the video finished this month.

Now, I will still get you a rough cut! Whatever form the video is in come New Year's Eve, I'll send it off to you. But it may be pretty dang rough. I had a really nice head start on the script at the start of the month, but there was a big loss of momentum. Something about getting my video taken down by Nazis really decreases my motivation to write more about Nazis. I've pulled out of it, but I'm really adamant to not ring in the new year by crunching on a video and burning myself out.

As I said in the last update, I should have plenty of time to write while I'm traveling! I'm jetlagged and waking up 3-4 hours before everyone else, so there's time to work in the mornings (hence: writing this update). I'm gonna see how much of the next script I can get done before I go back to Boston, and that'll make playing catchup in January go quicker. Hopefully we'll even catch up on that one video I still owe you!

Holiday Goodies

But don't think I'm gonna leave you empty-handed in this post! Here are some goodies I haven't shared yet:

I was interviewed in the most recent episode of Pineal Express, which went public this morning. We had a nice, dense conversation about politics, the channel, and - just a bit - Fury Road.

I wrote up three more adventure games on my Tumblr, and quite liked all three! Two of them even had good endings (!!!), which is the thing I keep complaining about. If you're a fan of the genre and haven't played Unavowed, you should play Unavowed ASAP.

And last month I quietly launched a secondary channel - Innuendo Twodios - for non-video-essay work. So far it hosts a couple of mixtapes: A They Might Be Giants mix and a collection of breakup songs. Aside from mixes, this is also where I'll put more playful or experimental stuff. If I ever do a Smash combo video, this is where it'd go. It's also where I'll eventually host the podcast, and I'm planning to reupload the update videos there to keep my private feeds neat and tidy.

Alright, that's all from me this update. Next month we'll talk about 2019 goals!

Happy holidays, goobers.

Comments

I (personally) really dislike it when a video essay channel starts clogging my subscription box with streams, vlogs, and podcasts, so I'd rather it be on a separate channel. Most of the listens will probably come from, like, Stitcher/Podbean/iTunes anyway.

Ian Danskin

Clearly I need to play 'Unavowed'. I tried reading your piece because I finished playing 'Unforseen Incidents' a few months back, but without the comparison I wasn't able to appreciate the piece fully. Not on 'Unforseen Incidents', I was like: Ha! Look, a classic mediocre white man bumbling along in a very tongue-in-cheek-we-designed-the-game-this-way way. *laughs*

Kait Hatch

*listen *project: lp, eps, albums. *love fuck i'm bad at typing on my phone

Pierfrancesco Crivellari

I swear it's a couple weeks i liste nobody loves you like me frequently. I have a music project and every of our projecy starts with a song inspired from that song. I loved to see the title of the playlist, i'll listen to it right away

Pierfrancesco Crivellari

Thanks for the update! I'm looking forward to the upcoming video. A quick question: Why are you planning on uploading the podcast to the secondary channel? Wouldn't you want to leverage the main channel's subscriber count to reach the largest possible audience?
