July Update: Shiny & Chrome
Added 2018-08-09 21:46:36 +0000 UTCHey team! I realize it is no longer July. Here's an update anyway. <3
Big ol' Longo
After the headache of getting Lady Eboshi is Wrong past the copyright bots - it's been well-received, by the way! - I am back to work on the big video, the one I've been writing and researching for two months now.
The Big ol' Longo is a video is 7 parts, so, while the finished thing will be one, lengthy video, as I get rough cuts of each individual part I'm going to upload them to YouTube just to see if it gets any copyright strikes. I don't want to deal with the same nonsense as I did in the Princess Mononoke video. And, as long as I'm uploading them, I'm going to send them to y'all as they get finished! So expect a steady stream of #content this month as I put this behemoth together.
I'll be sending you the rough of the intro as soon as I finish this update.
Milestones
The last few months have seen a few red letter days for the channel. As I mentioned in the last update, in June Innuendo Studios broke 100k subscribers. This month Things of Beauty became my first video to hit 1 million views, and This Is Phil Fish isn't far behind.
Also, not that it's near as significant, but today this became my most popular tweet. Woo.

I also had the pleasure of meeting up with Natalie Wynn (aka Contrapoints) and Olly from PhilosophyTube this week! They came to Boston for a meetup with their fans, and, heck, I'm a fan as well, so I told them I'd show up!
It was kind of interesting being at a meetup of the loosely-connected "YouTube Left," especially as the only 'tuber who doesn't show up on camera much. (Olly said he assumed I'd be a skinny redhead.) A decent chunk of people in attendance know my work, and a few even came to see me in specific, but not many know what I look like. There was a lot of chatting and then, "...your voice sounds familiar." It's kind of cool establishing a human connection prior to finding out someone is a fan. It's a bit easier to keep everyone on the same level.
(Nat and Olly are both delightful, by the way.)
I also recently had the honor of getting dogpiled thanks to Ian Miles Cheong, so it hasn't all been glitter and rose petals.
The Coming Months
Once we get the Big ol' Longo online, it's back to The Alt-Right Playbook. I guess I've inadvertently taken the summer off from political videos. I know for certain which two are going to be next, and, with any luck, I'll find some time to begin the script before the end of the month.
There are a few other things to tackle once this video is online:
- The podcast - I really want to start collecting interviews and putting the podcast together this Fall. I've learned from past experience not to over-promise - or, rather, I've consistently failed to learn this and am trying to do so now! - so this is more an intent than a commitment. I need to pull enough money together to get a decent mic before I tackle this, but I think it should be doable soon.
- GoFundMe - I am probably going to run a GoFundMe for a new laptop in the near future. You know, one that couple play modern games, and run Premiere so I could edit while traveling. I've been planning on just saving up money for one, but some folks online said they'd happily contribute if it meant finally hearing my thoughts on, for instance, Life is Strange: Before the Storm, The Walking Dead: New Frontier, or Inside. I figure there's no harm in running one, even if I don't get many pledges. Obviously, y'all already support me plenty, this would be more focused on other people, but sharing on your social media when the time comes would be a boon!
- The Next Big ol' Longo - As ever, I'm protective about what what future videos I'm working on, but there's an idea for a big video that I've been kicking around for a while. It's very different from what I've done in the past, and would take a lot of planning and hiring a few contractors. It's a proper narrative project, though one that also serves as a kind of essay. I don't know how long it would take to pull together, but I would really like it to be the next big project. Trying to stretch my wings a bit!
That's it for this update, team! Have a Thursday!

Re: The Next Big ol' Longo, I'm very excited to read about this! Sounds daunting, ambitious, and risky, which are all good descriptors, as far as I'm concerned. Your narrative style of essay has always made your work stand out, so seeing how deep you can go with a full narrative makes a lot of sense as a new thing to try.
