The Alt-Right Playbook: Mainstreaming

I look forward to it!

Ian Danskin

Well if you do read it, I hope you like it. It's not as polished as some, I don't have a lot of formal education (I weld pipe and fix machinery for a living) but I tried my best to write it as well as I could.

Oh hey, I've had a tab of that article open on my browser for... a while. I should get to it one of thse days!

Ian Danskin

Yeah it's a wild ride. http://dogpatch.press/2017/09/01/charlottesville-andrew-dodson/ Patch and I have been uncovering neo-nazis coming into the furry fandom to recruit since this online subculture is predominantly composed of their target demographic: socially isolated, young, white, and male. Nathan Gate (TheBigKK) was another Charlottesville Nazi-Furry that Patch and I were keeping an eye on. https://medium.com/@DeoTasDevil/how-white-nationalism-courts-internet-nerd-culture-b4ebad07863d

Whoa, holy crap!

Ian Danskin

At time 8:43 in this video you use a photo of Andrew Dodson (in the red Arkansas shirt). Last December Dodson chased me around a furry convention in Chicago and threatening artists who had done work for me to tell him where I was so he could have his "revenge" since my friend and I outted him as not only a Nazi, but a Nazi Furry (thus ostracizing him from even his white power buddies). He also died of a heroin overdose on March 9th of this year.

There's the general problem that, right now, nobody pays for news anymore, so 100% of news revenue comes from ads. This makes them much, much more desperate for clicks, which means they will be more prone to covering salacious topics and more susceptible to hoaxes. It also means most have reduced staffs which makes it harder to do fact-checking. So some kind of change to how news gets funded needs to happen, though I'm not sure what. And social media sites just need to start banning Nazis, full stop.

Ian Danskin

I think this may be your best video on the alt-right yet. Very comprehensible, very well paced and explained, and absolutely coherent. Thank you!

Nikki

"Changes to how media platforms generate traffic" could you clarify what this could mean? or provide some recommendations that could?

Sean Haskett

Convinced me to finally start patronizing (wait, that doesn't sound right...) you! This series is IMO your best work yet, even better than 'Why are you so angry?'. You're one of the few analytical YouTubers who really commits to the sort of post-structuralist-and-affiliated theory I love, in a format I'm invested in.
