More like cheesecakes in general, to be honest. I've been trying to make vegan ones more recently, so I was hoping to compare and contrast with the way you did it. ^^

Thanks for the update vid, and congrats!

I don't think I'll ever leave games behind, don't worry. Expanding is more of an "and" than an "instead of."

Ian Danskin

Thanx!

Ian Danskin

Are you in the habit of making vegan cheesecakes?

Ian Danskin

I have really complicated feelings on the ending. When I think about what the ending MEANS - or, at least, what I'm pretty sure it means - it's kind of the perfect ending. But it just doesn't work in practice for me. I don't know if the ending they went with could have been done well and they just didn't figure it out, or if it's just the wrong way to tackle what they're tackling, but it really affected my feelings about the game. Also the first two thirds are very good, but I can't shake the feeling that I should love it more...? Like, Possum Springs is so close to my hometown it's kind of ridiculous, and the population is so much like the people I grew up with, but I was surprised to find myself mostly just quietly appreciating it instead of loving it. I can't really account for that.

Ian Danskin

I'm stoked. And con-GRAD-ulations! :P

I'm going through some financial hard times recently and, among other things, had to cancel all of my patreon pledges. That is, all except this one, because I like your channel so much. It's great news that you'll be putting out more content soon. I do hope you don't stray too far from games though, because your voice in this space is so unique. There are a million thoughtful, analytically-minded social commentators who talk about film, media, and society in general. Yet almost none in the games space - at least not of your level, in my opinion. You delve deeper than most commentators, dissect issues with more intellectual clarity, and do it all without a shred of academic dryness or pomposity.

Congratulations on graduation, Ian!

All I have to say is: you better make a photo of the cheesecake when you eventually do it, Ian! And if you could pass along the recipe, that would be even better! (hey, I can dream...)

Tomás Grau

(I have nothing to add re: the games you've played there, just wanted to wish you well)

Ryan Aston

Congratulations on your magic hat, Ian! Keep up the great work

Well, glad you're back on track, Ian! :) Alright, conversation.... Night in the Woods makes it hard for me to not shoot the breeze because I've noticed how I accidentally turned into almost an evangelist for this game. Out of all the games you mentioned, this was the one that resonated most strongly with me, so much so that I've finished it 3 times by now and keep finding so many more details - which is, next to the writing - one of its strong suits. It's so diverse and playful (from the developers' perspective) in how many different kinds of interaction it features without ever losing track or ending up with a hot mess of incongruent ideas. Add to that it being one of the few games that handles queer characters in such a loving way (by simply not making it a big thing that needs constant special emphasis and attention) and definitely less clumsy than, say, LiS for example... or how it *mostly* handles different characters with mental health issues in the same way, without turning mental health into a cheap narrative boogeyman like 99% of other media. There are so many different topics tackled in this game on such a broad emotional scale that it could have easily turned out turned out to be an utterly incoherent mess of tryhard innovative game design ... but it doesn't. It's fucking great. I really love this game and am glad to hear you enjoyed it too. (And I agree, the ending was...... unexpected and definitely not its redeeming part)
