The View from Halfway Down has likely saved lives. It's saved mine. Whenever I've felt at my worst, I watch that episode to shake myself back into reality. I've never seen anything like it, it's the scariest thing I've ever experienced in media, and good god is it effective.

2024-12-01 01:38:46 +0000 UTCI've read a psychologist's blog articles about how he got into the minds of abusers called "down the rabbit hole: the world of estranged parents forums." Not "parents of drug addicts" or "how to tell if your child has an abusive lover", specifically "estranged parents." There, abusers gather in an echo chamber. Woolie's right, those people have wound up with a mental palace that's broken at its very foundation; they've failed to develop any logic-filtering of negativity. This is a big angle to why children of abusers have a higher chance to become abusers in turn, they've been ingrained to fear people's demands. The only criticism they can recall details of are things they just brush off, everything else is a vile noise, they're always the victim in their minds.
