The story

As you all know, the creation of modding tools for Horizon Forbidden West was a long journey. Almost one year after its PC release there was nearly complete silence on the modding site. There were a couple attempts, for example from ShadelessFox, which resulted in creation of Odradek (program for viewing HFW game data) and from Daskyruem, who created tool which dumping all models and textures, but without ability to import them back.

Today, thanks to Id-daemon, the models and textures can be not just extracted but also succesfuly imported back to game, which is openning excelent posibilities for HFW modding in general. Moreover, Id-daemon and other enthusiasts (Hardcorhobbyist, Hornycopter, KingJulz and other) are united in HFW modding chat (ResHax discord channel) and working hard to create clear and simple tools both, for hfw mod-makers and hfw mod-users.

The importance of the export/import tool, created by Id-daemon, is difficult to underestimate, but the lack of multi-modding capabilities (the inability to install multiple modifications simultaneously) was a major problem until the present time. Happy to inform you that recently this problem was solved by the creation of HFW Mod Manager by KingJulz. The early releases of this tool are already available on Github. Current mod manager has a user-friendly interface with such cool functions as Drag & Drop, Mod previews, one click Packing, Game files restoring and more. The tool is still under development/bug fixing and will receive constant updates.

Mods installation with Mod manager

Since HFW Mod Manager packs only raw mod files (.core and .stream), this means the present mods from Nexus aren't compatible, and mod creators will be required to repack their existing mods in a new format and continue creating new mods in the following format in the future. It will take some time, but for sure it woun't take long.
