2025-11-24 22:37:45 +0000 UTCThe first film was actually written as a stand-alone; had the Bobs (Gale and Zemeckis) known the studio wanted a sequel, they wouldn't have ended the film with Doc and Marty bringing Jennifer with them to the future. The script was rejected 44 times by most of the major studios before Universal decided to take the chance and fund production. Once it became it a hit, that's when the sequel was green-lit.
