Mainly it was the yoki mini arc and meeting Barry when he was alive and how more impactful it was to see him as an empty armor husk

I wouldn’t skip 27, If 27 is the episode I’m thinking about. It’s a recap but done in a way that makes it important to the narrative and to the characterization of certain characters.

But that's quite amusing haha. I thought he was just being weird.

Please watch 23-26 next, 27 is a recap episode more or less and I don't think there is any new content at all but please confirm with other people.

Just like hxh 1999 and hxh 2011, the older version takes a slower pace and has extra scenes that makes things more meaningful, like that church scene in fma. It was shown in the original why that woman had blind faith on the priest and why she had all that emotions with her.
They eventually did become different animes. The plot went separately for full metal alchemist. Just think of it as an alternate universe.

The first 9-10 episodes of brotherhood basically do a quick recap of the canon material from the OG anime. There isn't any need to watch the original anime to understand the main points of this series.

FMA has a completely different story after a certain point (because the manga wasn't even halfway done and they had no idea what the story was supposed to be), and a worse pacing with a lot of fillers even before they got to that point
.
If you want to watch it, better do it after you finished FMAB.

To quickly expalin FM and FMAB differences - FMA came out when the manga wasn't finished so halfway through it branches off into an anime original story, with anime original characters and ending.
FMAB follows the manga all the way through, so from that halfpoint the story is completely different.
That said, since the fist half of FMA still follows the manga, most of it wasn't remade in FMAB, only the very important parts, leaving out stuff. Basically, it's a good idea to watch FMA, or at least the first half of it before going into FMAB, but at the same time it's not really necessary or anything.

You didnt miss anything essential & some things are even straight up different from the manga & wrong in the original series. You dont miss out by skipping the first series at all, similar to how you dont miss out by going traigt for hxh 2011 instead of the original.

You're not missing anything essential. There are some things you can consider "Easter eggs," or fan service for those who watched that series (or read those manga chapters). They aren't important for the overall story. Knowing that Scar likes pandas, for example, is not necessary.
