A bit late but my recommendation if you plan on getting a more powerful Desktop in the future is to just buy a gaming laptop off ebay or off Facebook Marketplace. I bought my Acer Predator Helios 300 on Facebook from a local person for $700, has a i7 4core-8thread, 16Gb of RAM (16GB is highly recommended as a minimum for what you need), 256Gb NVME SSD for Windows 10, 2TB HDD for Storage and Video Editing Files, and a full fledged GTX 1060 6Gb which I'm able to run VR Games smoothly and play on High/Ultra on 1080p. You don't need anything fancy if you plan on getting a Desktop anyways.

This is only true in the case of Ryzen 3 and 5 actually and the cheaper Ryzen 5 actually trades off a fair amount of power for the $100 difference. Ryzen 7s are still capped at 64GB of RAM leaving limited upgradeability, lack an integrated GPU booster, and have significantly lower clock speeds capping at 4.3 GHz...making the Intel 6-core 4.5GHz cpus well worth the extra few bucks. Meanwhile the Ryzen 9 has the exact opposite issue with significantly more multi-core performance than the i9s but in some cases can be upwards of $1500 more expensive despite slower single-core speeds. In addition, many manufacturers simply don't pair a GeForce with a Ryzen GPU very often and the GeForce Turing architecture is significantly superior in terms of gaming, video editing and rendering over Radeon. If she was looking for a computer next month, I'd say Ryzen's 3rd generation would be a whole different story. But since we are still limited to their 2nd gen against Intel's 9th gen i-core processors, it's not really a question for a gaming build. Their 3rd gen however is shaping up to be extremely impressive though, once they hit 7nm.

I agree with Daniel, also I think if you want to cut back on the price a little bit, the NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti is also a good choice for your GPU.

Make sure that your new PC or Laptop has an AMD Ryzen CPU. Many people recommend Intel out of habit, but nowadays Ryzen CPUs offer a better performance (especially for video editing and rendering) for a much lower price.

I can't recommend an intel CPU (or a laptop with an Intel CPU) atm since the Ryzen CPUs from AMD have a higher performance at a lower price/cost, especially if you want to do something like video editing.

The problem with Origin is that there is only one in her price range and it's the 15" non-customizable ready-to-ship base model with mediocre specs. Their top tier laptops aren't really bad, if a bit high in price, but the models on the lower end just aren't good comparably.

Acer predator Helios 300 - has various models but the general specs is a 9th generation Intel i7 cpu (quite good) and the starting GPU is a GTX 1060 (fairly good). The price range is around your budget as well. There are models that go up to a GTX 2060 or 2070 as well but more pricey. However, it is unfortunate that you can't get a gaming PC right now as a gaming laptop have a short life imo. Especially if you are streaming and editing HD videos for long durations, it will be harsh on the laptop with limited heat dispersion due to its enclosed casing. If it's maintained well, it can go a few years before you see a noticeable drop in performance.

The Triton is probably a bit over her price point but would definitely be worth the extra $200 if she were gaming. For a video editor though, a laptop with only 512GB of Hard drive space may be a tough sell because she'll have to rely significantly on an additional external drive with slow speeds for the bulk of her storage needs. When you take that into consideration the Scar would probably be far more sufficient for her needs.

If you want a powerful gaming PC you can build one with a micro ATX motherboard, those things can be super small. Would be easier to recommend if we knew your current specs and how much of an upgrade you want since you said you would be looking for desktops in the future.

Smh, everyone saying something under 1k wouldn’t be good for editing is something I can’t wrap my head around. I have 3 Asus gaming laptops & they all work great for gaming & editing. You can buy one online or maybe at Best Buy.

Not sure how intensive editing and processing is, but this is super overkill for gaming in both cpu and gpu (unless u do 4K 144hz). So anything better than this is probably overkill, and this one is well within your budget ($1375 USD): https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16883230417 can probably find ~$1100 pcs with one tier lower gpu (rtx 2070) and similar/same cpu (i7 9700K). Heck for editing even ryzen may be better I'm not too sure but this should give you a general idea of what to expect for what price. Lower than $1000 you can still probably find a pc with same/similar tier cpu, and 2+ tiers lower gpu (gtx 1660ti or worse), but the problem it's harder to find a good deal that comes with a super good cpu (i7 9700K) with a low-mid range gpu (gtx 1660ti or worse).

Has a large 17 inch screen and a very strong CPU. This should hopefully cover everything that you would need.

For $1600 you can grab a nice medium entry laptop although it won't be super efficient at editing. There's plenty of good brands to choose from such as the asus rog/strix series, msi and Acer. Do your research on which one you want to choose carefully tho. Goodluck
