Nah, thats not right, thats just something fans made up because of some minor similiaries. If anything else it resembles Luffy's appearance when he became Nightmare Luffy. Oda even confirmed in a SBS that Luffy's Gear 4 design is heavily inspired by a traditional Japanese sculpture called the Nio. On a side note if u remeber back than Eneru used something similar as well in his Thunder God form. Even though they look similairh his form was based on Raijin which is a Japanese thunder god. Totally different lore.

The reason Luffy is just "floating" in mid air sometimes is just because the animation quality dropped off a cliff towards the end of Dressrosa, Gear 4th lets him fly, but the scenes of him just standing in air are just still shots because Toei got lazy.

Just as we had already seen conqueror's haki with shanks in episode 4 way before it was explained, we've seen awakening as well. Remember Punk Hazard where the admirals turned the island into ice and fire with their devil fruits.

Just so you know about the Birdcage, just for our sake, it's gapped like it is for us to see it and for them to animate consistently easily, but the reality is that consider the birdcage having so many strings that they are separated by mere centimeters. It's just a lot more of a hassle to draw that many.

Yeah, I mean, most of Luffy's powerups are goofy looking. That's what I love about Oda's work though. It's realistic. It's about practicality and strength. Not style. In other words, he has a kind of way of taking silly looking things and making them look cool. In fact, I'd say almost all of Luffy's attacks were silly at first. Oh, and if anyone tries to give you trouble about finding it funny, they're being pretty hypocritical, because I bet they had to adjust to it too.
