Oh and please please do not try to open the hard drive cover. Once that drive is exposed to air it is near impossible to recover as it can get contaminated by particles of dust. Hence why it's expensive because you need a vacuumed clean room

As long as the hard drive spins without difficulties or noises like clicking or scratching you should be good. It is common for the PCB board on hard drives to fail or for their firmware to crap out. Cheapest best bet is to buy the exact model for that PCB Board and swap it. And by "Exact Model" I mean "Exact Model", the hard drive Example: Model: ST1500DL003 Fimware (F/W): CC32 These 2 have to match, the hard drive cannot use the same PCB Model that has a different Firmware installed. You can sometimes find these pretty cheap on Ebay to buy and swap. **Only if that is the cause of the problem** I would try to insert the drive again internally connected or externally with a USB to Sata powered adapter and see if you can pull anything out if able. Hard drives are delicate :/

Im confused whats even a power board? Main board? If so it should have nothing to do with the hardrive. And all the data should be ok. And 530$ sounds far to expensive just to replace a mother board ( a new good mother board costs like 100$-150$).. I know these Pc services (same as car repair-serevices) very well and they all tend to be money sharks and try to get as money as possible from costumers even if some repairs arent even necessary. Better to know a person who actually has knowledge of PC's and is able to help you. Even something like data recovery with a working hard drive is easy. Sounds to me like a waste of money if u are planning to buy a new pc anyway. But I understand that there is panic first if you think that the data is lost and u just tried to do what u thought was the fastest and easiest way.

Never heard of power board. It's either power supply, motherboard, or printed circuit board. I'm guessing it's the pcb on the drive?

If I were you, go to this site -> " https://pcpartpicker.com/ " sign up and start w/ a Z390 motherboard and chose your own components. Do some research on components parts. The power board? If you mean the PC's motherboard, then that's no issue. Your hardrive still works and has all of your data no problem. All you gotta do is buy a replacement motherboard if you are on Windows OS and not on MAC...(should still be able to access you hardrive/storage regardless, get an enclosure). Also my apologies if some of my info may not pertain to your setup as I do not know if you have a mac or windows PC. The only thing I can say is that unless you don't plan to upgrade your CPU, then try getting another of the same model motherboard to not have issues. Edit: Saw your "goals" and I highly reccomend you build your own PC vs buying a prebuilt! I know that may seem scary but it really isn't. It's like legos, if you don't plug the things correctly it just won't turn on or work and there also 0% chance of messing anything up unless you intentionally do.

Yeah sadly it will cost me $530... just from diagnosing the problem and replacing the dead power board or whatever they said along with transferring the data.
