This is so true - only a few dubs haven't come across as cringe-worthy cheesy to me, and even then they usually still have those moments. For example the My Hero dub is pretty good. Something just sounds cooler about the japanese voices, more natural, even though I don't understand it. Maybe it's because the context of what's being said is so often unbelievable - paired coming from an animation it almost breaks immersion hearing 'real' voices you can understand. Hearing a language you don't understand, and processing what is being said with text sort of keeps everything you're seeing within a 'fake' context that is easier to palate. It's a tricky thing to explain but that's sort of how I think of it because I've always found English anime hard to watch.

For most its because native english speakers find the english dubs too cheesy. The same goes with native Japanese speakers, they say that the japanese voices are too cheesy and that english is cooler. Since most never natively learned the language, that group of people find the opposite language to have a bigger sounding impact, because they dont know the true nuances of those languages.

Depends on which version is your original. Despite arguments to the contrary I think It mostly boils down to subs being first to come out which seems to bias the discussion because first impressions can mean a lot to people. Whichever is seen first becomes the "standard." In this case, for many people dub was their first viewing of Bebop so naturally its their "canon." Speaking of anime in general most viewers are used to subs--being that again subs is what anime come out in first--so they stick with that they know (their habit) whenever a newer show comes out. I don't think it necessarily has as much to do with quality, especially for certain shows like Bebop or FMA (obviously some dubs are lazy).

Of course a dub can be better than a sub. There are people here claiming just that. Asserting something does not make it true. You can have your own personal preference but don't turn that into a rule.

Be sure to turn the volume up if you do dub please. subs are how I was able to follow but it does not matter to me. I have seen cowboy bebop 3 times and i love the anime. One of the best ever

She said she'd ended in 4 hours. And that was a while ago. So I'm glad that dub won. It really is a fantastic dubbing of the anime. So many fans always refer to Cowboy Bebop in terms of how good a dub can be.

Never watched any anime with (good) dub and I wont start with it. Im sure there might be some good ones but no matter how good a dub version is it simply cant be better than a sub (As good as the sub at best). Its just more convenient maybe (because u dont have to read) but other than that I dont see any pros for it. Btw. you have to consider that there are not only english native speaker watching her reactions. A dub version might be harder to understand than with subs. And she would need to increase the volume for us to hear everything they say.

As I mentioned on the other post I prefer the Dub. I honestly thought more people did. Although it is winning right now (Dubbed version) in the poll I thought it would be less close than it is but there is a bit of time and it seems from the comments that Dub is preferred. Well if anything the ability to vote is much appreciated. :)

i watched it in dub and it was awesome. I personally like english dubs unless it involves characters screaming their techniques when they fight...e.g. dragonball , OP , Naruto, Bleach, FT ...then it always loses it's magic and becomes weird

Dub. No reason to watch it in sub. Some people will vote sub because they hate any dub no matter what. Bebop dub is great.

I generally prefer to watch all anime in sub, but for cowboy bebop I don't mind either. Maybe watching the first episode of both versions and choosing the one you prefer is better.

I favorited your comment because its funny. I said I doubt there was rigging in this case. There is no reason to think anything is out of the ordinary and I don't really look for these things. From my memory, the other channel left polls open to anyone (or it might have been that an influx of people waited and then paid the 1$ for the poll right as it was closing and then immediately unregistered, which caused some arguments from those long-time patrons who didn't like youtube viewers subbing temporarily to alter a patron-only poll so that they could see the show in their preferred format when it reached youtube). That's why I mentioned her 1$ tier (which I'm apart of) and also mentioned how I can't understand people's motivations. My point was that spending 1$ to mess with a poll seems pointless but lots of things people do seem pointless to me and frankly its debatable whether there's anything wrong with paying your money and then deregistering.

Dub 100%. I've never even heard of someone watching the sub. Dub is definitely the standard experience.

A lot of what he did seemed purposefully western-based so this just seems like one of those where dub isn't unreasonable and likely preferable. English for better or worse is a more standard international language. But you're also right that I made an assumption about where the patrons come from (if your comment was a response to me; seemed like it might have been).

I'm sure many subs don't have English as their native language, such as myself, so the language choice doesn't really matter that much. And I can't speak for everyone of them, but I guess those accents might not sound that different to us.

It's famous, the people that love it swear and rave for it. But if I'm gonna pick best dub it's either going to be fmab or black lagoon. I haven't seen bl sub but in the case of cb or fmab I still prefer the sub. I think a lot of us maybe are just quiet about it because we don't want to deal with the masses that rave about the dub

It's not close in the comments either. I mean this is a show with various accents and ethnicities. If you're an English speaker why wouldn't a good dub portray those accents and quirks better and more recognizably than Japanese actors.

I'll say dub, if you think you can do it without talking over dialogue. Perhaps have the dub with subs/captions. The Cowboy Bebop dub is regarded as one of the best English dubs ever produced, and one of few anime the majority believe the dub is better, so if there's any time you should do a dub reaction, it's now.
