2022-10-13 01:42:32 +0000 UTCThe manga is insane. I will say this much. Its good to begin with but there is no chance they get to the really crazy stuff in the first season. So I do worry that people who had been hyping up the anime based on the whole manga may have overhyped it because the people they are hyping it to wont get to the 10/10 parts for a year or two. The way I see it is early Chainsaw Man is good/great, Easily 7-8/10 with some really great elements. But late game Chainsaw Man is like 11/10.

I think it also has a kind of unique look that lets you know that this is a Mappa animation, which I think all great animators and animation studios strive for. Like how you can automatically tell if a production is a Studio Ghibli one or the distinct look of Genndy Tartakovsky. Mappa has been killing it the past few years.

It's crazy how well Mappa mixes CG and 2D animation as seen in AoT, but especially in this episode. I hate CG but there's a way to do it right and this is definitely it. I can't imagine how much of a pain it would've been to not use CG for the chainsaws that are pieces constantly moving on a character without it clashing with the art style they have going on or it just being a grey blur at all times and I feel like people won't think about that.

2022-10-11 23:55:37 +0000 UTCHonestly the CGI here is much better than in most other cases. The rest of the actual 2D animation, art direction, shot composition, storyboarding, etc. is reeeaaalllyy good to the point where I don't mind much if at all.
