We know already how deep these Devil fruit powers can go, so yeah the definition of a hydra is to not die by cutting of heads. The cliche saying is "Cut of The Hydras head, and two more will grow in its place." I didn't believe for a second he was dead.

What if that applied to his human form too?Orochi had been living in paranoia and fear ever since Oden's execution and the subsequent prophecy, and if his fruit allows him to have multiple heads as a human then It makes sense for him to have one of his superfluous heads serve as a decoy in the event of a samurai assassination. Of course he's so arrogant that I don't believe that he expected Kaido to betray him like that,but in this case his paranoid preparation served him well.

2022-07-17 12:45:53 +0000 UTCI'm pretty sure the theory of Orochi still being alive is that his head simply grew back. His devil fruit is basically based on the Japanese version of the Greek Hydra. A snake monster with multiple heads that if chopped off, 2 more would grow back in its place. However the Japanese version of this monster doesn't seem to grow back multiple heads (instead it just allows him to grow the one head back?) Maybe it doesn't happen in Orochi's regular human form. But knowing the monster that Orochi's power was based on, I knew he wasn't dead from a head chop XD I just had to keep my mouth shut this whole time for other people XD glad to finally say it now hehe
