now that we already know the story of Emilia before, we all know the meanings behind Betelguese's words in episode 15 and how most of it is also something that he might've said to himself in that moment. All of those words now carries a lot of weight since most of us already know what they meant to him. just an edit since no one has said it before, Betelguese's voice actor is also Kirito from Sword Art Online.

2021-07-17 14:28:07 +0000 UTCWell i'm not complaining about anything son, and i'm getting vibes with..hum...well... maybe at the very begining of the show when he says like : wtf where i am i, in a virutal world where i'm the hero and then he's showing he's phone and all and saying he still got his contact like his family, and then her waifus shows up, it's my personal opinion so stop think that i dont like this show or something, it's just strange how the story remind us time to time that he doesnt belong to this world, and he is not talking about that at all like he is amnesic or something

This was a wakeup call for that. And each candidate in episode 16 teach him a lesson, about controlling his emotions (Crusch), his dependence on Emilia (Priscilla) and about negociation (Anastasia)

There's a difference in "pretending to have lost his mind" vs "having lost his mind to the point where he's continuously deluding himself in regards to the outside world". His loss of sanity/mental stability was just not in line with what Petelgeuse knows.

It's not like he didn't lose his sanity at all. It's simply that he didn't lose it to the degree was acting as. Like it says in Volume 5 of the light novel. After Subaru is faced with the question of why he's "pretending" to be insane, the book narration says that Subaru could not listen to those words, because he shouldn't know or realize those words. And it says he had ignored this fact "simply sealed it away and pretended not to look at it." Then he thinks to himself "I don't hear you. I'm not listening. It's all the ravings of a madman. None of it hit the mark. None of it arrived at any truth." In denial of what was said. To say that none of it was pretending seems to be an interpretation that contradicts what is being said. But to say that all of it was pretending is ignorance of what is actually taking place.

2020-10-17 03:13:17 +0000 UTCEpisode 15: I love-hate Beteguese, he steals the show in a fucked up way. Really artistic ending and the end always reminds me of Dark Souls. Rem is a gem. And this is suffering, truly the Outside of Madness (still loving the title at the end). Love the call on Betelguese licking Subaru. Episode 16: I think its very easy to sympathize with Subaru and think ill of the other candidates, but try and look at it from the perspective. He made a fool of himself at the palace meeting and got beat up by a knight after accepting a duel that he had no right taking. Then he goes around asking desperately for help to fight against some shifty ass people. Subaru makes no effort to help them and basically demands (especially this loop) they fight and potentially die. He's also taking his frustration out on them and even Rem. Of course knowing the outcome we want them to help. And we first see [REDACTED], it was foreshadowed in the earlier loops remember. Can't wait for the next reaction. another 2 episodes is a great chuck to watch.

They don't really consider the mental stress he's been through and think they would do better in his position. Let's be honest, viewing as a third person is very different than actually experiencing it.
