I'm a native Japanese speaker, and I'm not even aware of all of the 'u' variances because I rarely think about it when I talk in Japanese, so it's quite fascinating to see how non-native speakers describe it. But, yes, you are correct with the examples you provided.

She's not a machine guys. 6 1/2 hours is plenty lol So, with the Japanese "u", there's actually 3 variations of it, and, when it gets translated into English, you don't really know which "u" it is until you actually hear the pronunciation in the show you're watching. One "u" sound is like the "oo" in the word "boo". Another "u" is like the "u" in the word but/t. This is the "u" that everyone told you is silent, which is sort-of true and sort-of not true. It's more like that "u" is not quite as pronounced as it is in English so it sounds silent to a Western ear (I say this as a fellow American, btw lol). It's basically a more subtle "u". If you hear the term "itadakimasu" in Japanese, that "u" at the end basically sounds like a really strong emphasis on the "s". So yeah. Also, the final "u" sound in Japanese is a more exaggerated form of the second "u" sound. Imagine you're really disgusted by something. You wouldn't say a normal "ugh", you would really dig into it and go "eeugh" or something like that. That's the closest English equivalent to that 3rd Japanese "u". Hope that makes sense. Ichigo and Uryu try so hard to be nonchalant, but, as teenage boys, they just can't quite pull it off 🤣🤣🤣
