FULL REACTION: Bridgerton 3x03

Comments

Let's Pop into this episode 💜

Kristina Fagan

Just seeing Colin all awkward with Pen is gold to me! ✨

Gabby Mouse

That’s fair, but damn, most of the time in tv the mean girl still gets to be hot! (Blair Waldorf comes to mind) 😂😂😂

Kayla Foley

It's such a hidden gem. Jennifer Coolidge is pure gold. I just discovered the deleted scenes and bloopers today, and now I kinda want to make my own extended cut.

Esther Boogie

Austenland is the best!

Charlie

Hey how do you guys decide what you keep when posting on YouTube? (Considering it’s basically half as long?) Do you keep just your favourite parts in? Or key parts of the episode? Keen to know how you guys decide what to keep and what to cut :)

Sophia Scanlan

I thought I was most excited to see y’all’s reaction to this episode, but then I realized benji might damn near die from the last episode!

Kamryn Russo

Rizzo you are so right, Simply lemonade is so much better than Minute Maid. I’d rather have nothing than Minute Maid 😭

Cayce Carson

it's just a fun app where creators discuss the books or TV shows they're watching. Right now we're in there discussing Briderton but once that dies down, I'm going to post about what I'm reading etc!

pinkpopcast

I’m pen will have tho only boy and get everything though lol -B

pinkpopcast

Right?? 😂

pinkpopcast

Prudence is the older sister, Phillipa is the middle daughter and Penelope is the youngest

Andrea Martinez

I love that too!

Esther Boogie

Silly question here, can I use fable on a laptop? It's asking me to download an app... I don't understand how it works

Charlotte

Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like that balloon scene was kind of silly. I mean I get what they were trying to go for, and I'm sure someone or something could have easily gotten hurt, but it does look a little ridiculous after things like Kate's fall off the horse, etc. But as always, another great reaction. I've been so excited for these episodes!

Christine J. Long

The real plot arc satisfaction we've been waiting for. Lol.

Christine J. Long

I didn't even catch the bitter thing! That was impressive :)

Megan Cunningham

Y’all are hilarious! Can’t wait to see the reaction to episode 4!

CB A

Rizzo drinking lemonade I'm happy for him

Kelley Nicholson

The balloon scene was ridiculous :'D but I did enjoy Debling swooping in without hesitation :)

Syrenka Warszawska

the HSM2 reference at 32:31 is chefs kiss

Chloe

finally got some lemonade then😂

Martha Bayley

I love how Benedict and Lady Tilley Arnold change positions while dancing. She took the lead 🕺 in formal dancing the men does and Benedict 💃 the women part of the dance.

ena moreno

I mean she so beautiful that her stylist need to put the attention away off her beautiful face to giant shoulder and hair that goes up to the sky

ena moreno

The video worked PERFECTLY in the post & I could watch it fullscreen, hell yeah!! Idk why they always style Cressida w giant shoulder things & her hair piled up on top of her head 😂 her stylist doing her dirty

Kayla Foley

I saw a hilarious response to the balloon scene on tiktok saying that we can't be mad at Penelope for not getting out of the way because she was caught off guard with horniness from seeing Colin flexing his muscles while pulling that balloon 🤣.

DriaZia

Penelope really said “One kiss is all it takes” 😅🥰

Kyra Denise Alston

AcTUaLlY, I was also annoyed by that slow moving balloon of doom. About that ending, ahem. Yes, Colin is indeed realizing how slippery his fingers might be. heh heh heh sorry.

Esther Boogie

I think Prudence and Phillipa are pregnant. The sister that had sex once drank or ate something in the last episode and it suddenly tasted bitter to her. Now both sisters know how to have sex and both went to throw up.

AnLoingseach

I couldnt wait for you guys to see the hot balloon scene 😭😭 the balloon was moving so slowly and it's so comical

Dip

Oh no. I don't think he'd go straight to "I love you" either. My insert was more the spirit of the thing, and comedic in tone (thus, the *insert* format). I hope that makes sense. I'm leaning towards him saying something along the lines of, "I've been needing to ask you if only see me as a friend, because I'd like us to be more." I don't think asking her to dance would be enough, because it was made clear from other seasons that Colin occasionally dances with Pen at balls.

Mandi Mateer

I do love a good turn about the room! Seriously, I know I commented this already on your YT channel, but you both would love the shit out of the romcom Austenland. It would be the perfect thing to watch while waiting for Bridgerton Part 2. Love you both!

Esther Boogie

I thought it had been made official, but you're right - I just checked and it hasn't been confirmed. My bad! That Google search did tell me that the actress who plays Prudence May be dating Lord Debling and also she is Imelda Staunton's daughter? Everyone in the British period drama scene knows each other, I swear. (Disclaimer: usually I don't actually care about who is daling who - that's their business -, but the pictures looked very sweet.)

Yara Kaas

Has it been confirmed that they are together? I keep seeing the possibility that they are together but not a source that has said it was true. It would be cute.

Amber

I'm sure someone has left this comment before, but just in case: the actress who plays Philipa (the cheese couple sister) is in a relationship with the actor who plays Benedict. Cute! Also, I thought of that same Austin Powers scene as Rizzo - I don't know if it was the editing, but nothing about the scene worked as intended (except for the Colin forearm thirst trap, of course).

Yara Kaas

I also 100% don’t believe he was going to say “I love you”. He was going to say something to get a foot in the door, like “I was wondering if I could sign your dance card” or “I was wondering if you would ever consider me as a prospect”, or “I would like to call on you tomorrow, as a suitor, if you are open to it.”

Daffodoodle

lol I saw an interview with Julia Quinn where she shrugged and was like idk, “Philippa” starts with an “F” sound, and “Felicity” always felt like the exact right name to me”.

Daffodoodle

Yes. And their ages in the books actually also make the fact that Colin “friend zones” her even easier to forgive (not that it ever needs forgiving). She is 16 and he 21 when they meet in the books. Especially as someone who at the time has 3 teenaged sisters of his own and as someone who is NOT at an age where a man is expected to start looking for a wife, he has no reason to see her as anything other than “my little sister’s friend”. And just like girls had a bunch of weird expectations of how and when to do things, Colin would have been expected to WAIT to marry and leave the prospective brides for men in their later 20s and 30s (and widowers, which there were more of back then, most of whom remarried ASAP). That is why everyone is so shocked in the show when he pursues Marina. Men his age would have been expected to NOT view the women coming in the marriage mart as people to “date”, because they weren’t going to marry them, so they would just be ruining the women’s prospects. Another thing I think we don’t quite picture clearly is the idea that all these people were expected to wait forever to have sex. They actually were ALL expected to start having sex by their late teens, ideally. But noble women would achieve this by finding a husband to have sex with. Noble men were expected to kill time with prostitutes or women of lower classes until they were ready to take a wife. And it was also seen as practicing so one of you knows how to do it, since she sure won’t. 😂 And like Anthony alludes to with Colin and Marina, the idea that the men had matured a little more and had plenty of time to sleep with multiple women and satisfy their urges meant they hopefully would have a clearer mind when choosing a wife, instead of choosing the easiest choice in order to get to have sex ASAP or choosing the “hottest” girl who is otherwise terrible wife material. And honestly, Anthony is right that that is EXACTLY what happens with Marina. Colin just wants to have sex with Marina and mistakes that for love. The Marina proposal is like the young Christian kid who proposes at 19 because he’s horny and then divorces by 23. 😂 If a noble man and woman who were BOTH around or younger than 20 got married, that was probably more likely a love match that no one stopped or some sort of extenuating circumstance that otherwise made it advantageous for two families to arrange it (including maybe them getting caught fooling around).

Daffodoodle

i love a man being pathetic over a woman, its my favorite trope🤭💕

Aaliyah Brown

i just love Violet lurking in the background as Colin is tryna talk to Penelope😭🤭

Aaliyah Brown

i see you got your lemonade

Aaliyah Brown

Love how happy Rizzo was that he guessed correctly whose dream it was 😄 And all jokes on the balloon scene are welcome, it was ridiculous 😄 I think it had more potential, like different editing or something? But maybe they wanted it to be for laughs, with all the romcom vibes this year...not complaining, laughed a lot this season so far 😄

Masha X.

Exactly!!! Like, yes, Colin is putting on an act with this rakish behavior. However, this false persona did help him realize who he really is, and what he really wants out of life! His travels and the experimentation he did on them opened his eyes, and his journals prove that

Mandi Mateer

I’m so excited to see you two react to episode four! I am absolutely loving this season with Colin and Penelope. Can’t wait to see more!

Jinnifer

Thank you for another amazing reaction! A little context about why Cressida is not considered a spinster.... In the regency era being a spinster was more to do with economic prospects than age (though the older the woman was the, for want of a less horrible way of putting it...the lesser her value - in simplest terms due to her fewer remaining reproductive years to produce a potential heir, even today women over the age of 35 are considered geriatric pregnancies due to the increased chance of complications). The Cowper family are wealthy and so the cost of ordering new dresses, jewels, hosting balls and giving their daughter a dowery have less of an impact on them than on the Featheringtons. Also Mrs Featherington already has two daughters married by this season and has watched for 2 years as Penelope has garnered no suitors. Penelope is therefore relegated to spinsterhood as putting her back on the marriage mart as a viable and available young woman is basically no longer considered worth the expense. Think about Charlotte Lucas from Pride and Prejudice, she is 27 and considered a burden to her family, when the opportunity to marry for comfort comes, she takes it. Also (and spoiler for the books below): There are time jumps in the books. By the time Colin's book comes around Penelope is not the 18/19 year old she would be in this season of the show if they are using all the same ages, but rather 28 years old and definitely a spinster by societies standards at least for that time. Cressida's story in the books is different and she is never referred to as a spinster. Sorry for the really long message. 😅

Charis Chislett-McDonald

Understandable! I just like that someone was on Penelopes side in that house.

Sydni Green

It bugs me so much that Portia named her oldest daughters with P names and then the youngest is Felicity. It's really the reason I'm totally fine with them leaving her out of the show.

Sam

yayy omg didn'y expect this so soon, i am seateddd

Maya

Yep, I am also on this train with y’all. People aren’t talking about that journal entry at all online, really, and it’s honestly really shocking, because I saw it as key to his entire storyline in this season and across the series. Especially for the people hating on Colin’s “new personality”. Like, are you all not reading the big bold print they keep putting between all the lines here? 😅

Daffodoodle

I also agree with Crystal! I was waiting until the particular scene in episode 4 to connect the dots laid out in each episode. It's why I mentioned there being hints in episode 2 in my initial comment. Trust, I'm with y'all! :)

Mandi Mateer

Yes, I’ve only read books 4 and 5 so far, but she is so sweet in 4 (the one this season is loosely based on), and I really enjoyed seeing someone inside that house having her back and supporting her and Colin. I get why it also works on the show for Pen to be more isolated than that, though, in addition to simplifying the storytelling. But I need to read more of the books and get more glimpses of the mysterious Felicity. 💜

Daffodoodle

yayy! just made my day :)

Mickey Ross

Someone made a TikTok saying Penelope wasn’t moving because she was distracted by Colin and Nicola commented saying that she’s right sooo it was definitely just a thirst trap

leah hoffman

There is nothing more real than that look between Pen and Eloise when Cressida makes her name the great auk. 💀 Eloise always has like 5 iconic reaction shots every season, and this is automatically on the list for me.

Daffodoodle

You hit on something I was going to talk about next episode! I was going to give Colin credit for the same thing. ;) There's the scene next episode that makes it more obvious, that I was waiting to mention. There was only one sentence in Colin's journal, so I wanted give Colin a chance to state his feelings openly like he does in 4 instead of just a moment privately before I said anything. But trust, we're on the same page!!!! It's what I meant when I said you got a hint on episode 2.

Mandi Mateer

Lmao everyone is making this joke because omg there is no other way to say it, and it makes me laugh and cringe every time lol. I don’t think I will ever hear this saying without thinking of this scene from now on. And honestly, I think it was more like 7-10 for her. This was like long-distance holiday ground shipping, and she’s sitting there with the tracking number getting regular email updates and a text when it’s out for delivery. 😭😅

Daffodoodle

The great auk is now extinct, but if you look it up, it’s familiar looking from I guess old timey explorer photographs and drawings and stuffed birds or something. It looks like a penguin but was discovered before penguins and lived in the northern hemisphere, while penguins live in the southern hemisphere. Its genus was called Pinguinus, and people would sometimes refer to them as penguins. Even though they weren’t very closely related evolution wise, when explorers discovered “our” penguins, they named them that because they looked like great auks. Look them up. They’re cute. The more you know. 🌈

Daffodoodle

About the background actors, I rewatched the series twice in the past couple months, and it is actually crazy how frequently some people appear. Then I was watching one of the featurettes from either this season or a previous season where they said they purposefully populate the world, and the balls in particular, with the same people, including the same dancers, because this circle of “the Ton” WOULD be a pretty small group of people in real life. So most people should look familiar at every function.

Daffodoodle

We're being FEED! Fun fact, it's crazy that in the book they have a younger sister named Felicity Featherington who is best friends with Hyancith Bridgerton. They just scratched the younger sister altogether which sucks because Penelope and Felicity have a nice relationship in the books ;-;

Sydni Green

Yes Crystal!! I agree with everything you said!

Tabitha V

Maybe I’m giving Colin too much credit because I love his character, but I don’t think it was Debling that made Colin realize he loves Penelope, I really think it was the kiss in episode 2. It’s unfortunate timing, but I see it less as he wants someone because someone else has them, and more he happened to realize his affection while someone else was also looking at Penelope. He talks a lot about connection and being lonely, like in his diary when he said you can feel so physically close to someone but also such a distance. I think kissing Penelope was the first time he felt that physical proximity and the emotional intimacy and it changed his entire outlook on himself, on Penelope and on their friendship. Also like I said in another comment, I don’t think Violet has been telling him his whole life that friendship is the basis of a good marriage, that line is supposed to be a callback to her conversation with Daphne about her and Simon and love developing from their friendship. It shows that Colin was listening and absorbing what his mom was saying and that, now that he’s developed feelings for Penelope, he’s realizing the important of her words. Violet said herself, it’s rare that love develops from friendship, so why would she be pushing it on her kids. Love develops most often from situations like Kate and Anthony, where there’s more of an immediate attraction that is explored and friendship grows out of love.

Crystal Pritchard

Prudence (married to Dankwork) is the taller sister's name. the middle sister/cheese one's name is Philippa (married to Albian Finch). I'm cracking up at how UNIMPRESSED you guys are with the balloon.

Zara Hoffman

I was going to wait and watch this tonight but I couldn’t, so I parked my kids in front of the TV and watched it by myself with my snacks 🤣🤣🤣 I can’t wait for the next episode reaction. I may die. No pressure or anything. “Sucks to suck, Colin” should honestly be the tagline for this season!

Megan Brick

I didnt mean to imply didnt know was just funny seeing you both joke about it afterwards but true it was extremely goofy 🤪 especially when their grabbing rope without gloves and no rope burn

Lisa - Marie

*Colin after talking about courage with everyone all night:* I'm going to tell Penelope I'm in love with her in a ballroom full of people. Screw waiting. I feel brave right now. Worst Timing Ever Award goes to Lord Debling for interrupting the confession. Still, Colin did sleep on Pen despite being told all his life by his parents that friendship is a great foundation for love and marriage. I think a definite reason he didn't see Penelope as a viable romantic partner before is that toxic jealousy thing of he didn't want her until he thought someone else could take her away. There's another reason that I won't talk about until next episode for spoiler reasons, though you got a hint of why in episode 2!!!

Mandi Mateer

Oooo that's so true

pinkpopcast

UGH I guess you're right hahaha

pinkpopcast

that definitely makes sense lol

pinkpopcast

that's a fun detail

pinkpopcast

like I know what they were trying to go for but... still goofy hahaha

pinkpopcast

HAHAHA so we were't wrong. And thank you. I love my lemonade!

pinkpopcast

oh nooooo!

pinkpopcast

ooo I was just thinking that as I was editing this episode last night

pinkpopcast

So it’s not that Violet has been telling Colin his whole life that great love is built on friendship. That line is a callback to season 1 when she tells Daphne that love can develop from friendship in reference to Daphne and Simon; Colin was just in the room and heard it. Now that he’s developing feelings for Penelope, he’s remembering his mom’s words.

Crystal Pritchard

I think we all need a moment of silence for L. Debling when the Great Auk goes extinct in 20 years 😭👀

Megan Cunningham

Rizzo and his lemonade is the third greatest love story of Bridgerton season 3. I had to google hot air balloon disasters after watching that, I still struggle with that scene, unless it was just a huge Colin thirst trap and in that case, it worked.

Sam

Okay, here's some answers for ya! Benedicts new lady-friend - no this lady is not from the books, and it's not who he ends up with in them. Lady Danburys son: we've never met him, but from what I remember, in Queen Charlotte, she mentions that she's happy she doesn't have much to do with her children. BUT I can tell you that in the books Hyacinth ends up with Lady Danburys grandson through her daughter. Mr. Mondrich could still be the owner of his club/bar/pub thing, but it's looked down upon for a member of Society to work, so that's why they tell him he shouldn't be running it himself - so yes if he hired someone to run it for him, that would be acceptable, in High Society's eyes. The songs adaptations this episode are Cheap Thrills by Sia and Happier Than Ever by Billie Eilish :)

Olivsterz

Another great reaction and think first time i have seen Rizzo get the song right before Benji lol. as for the hot air balloon i assumed it was less pushing her and more if it landed on her but was funny seeing you guys rip colin about it.

Lisa - Marie

Philippa is the shorter sister (from the cheese couple 😆) and Prudence is the taller one. I love the little fact that all of them have names starting with “P” including their mother, Portia, and Penelope, whereas Brigerton kids are named alphabetically. Love these little details 😃

Elena Mardale

I’m pretty sure it was confirmed that Penelope was distracted by how hot Colin looked pulling the rope and that’s why she didn’t move quick enough which I think is hilarious 😂 I love the romcom elements they’ve added this season

Tabitha V

If a guy helping a girl find a husband is scandalous to them then I’m sure an unmoored balloon would be like a runaway train lol

Cayce Carson

One of my favourite comments I’ve seen about Colin’s dream is that it wasn’t even really a sexual dream, he dreamed about telling Penelope how he feels and hearing that she feels the same. And then afterwards, after years of telling her that she’s his friend, he suddenly can’t call her a friend anymore. The boy is all turned around!!

Crystal Pritchard

Pen had 5-7 business days to move out of the way 😆

Abrielle Wright

🩵🩵🩵

Amelia Ostrander

The way I RAN onto here lol

Olivsterz

Hurrayyyyyy 😍😍😍😍😍😍

Eily Foley

These are coming sooooooo fast! And I love it 🙌
