As someone who lost their mother (although more suddenly from a stroke rather than cancer), at the same age as Jeremiah, losing your mother at that age is devastating. Mothers are socially and biologically our greatest attachment figure. Jeremiah was losing and then lost the center of his entire life. While I personally understand why he pushed Belly away, because it is a betrayal for her to bounce between brothers like that, she should have made a more active effort to help him through his grief. And that’s why she apologized. While no one is above criticism, Jeremiah is actually going through emotional hell.
