Will also say, as someone who *grew into* an airborne anaphylactic allergy to most nuts, it's not completely out of the question that he developed the allergy later in life rather than being born with it as a child

PA student here, just answering the question about how common it is for adults to have an anaphylactic reaction to bee stings. In the modern U.S. population, it is estimated that 1 in 20 people are severely allergic to bees, more common in women. Adults and children can both be allergic to bees, but adults have more severe reactions to stings. According to allergists, many cases can have mild reactions to the first sting, then the reaction becomes worse and worse with each subsequent sting. I'm speculating, but some bees are especially reactive to fear pheromones. Possibly, Anthony's father developed fear of bees after several negative reactions, which stimulated the bee to attack in addition to the swatting, and it didn't help that it stung his neck where the reaction would be most dangerous for his airway. Rizzo is right that in that time period, they could have tried an emergency cricothyrotomy (cut vertically under his Adam's apple to maintain the airway), but a hollow tube would need to be placed in the hole to his trachea and they didn't have straws or ink pens (just quills). So they would have had to place something to hold his trachea open until the reaction passed, which would take hours without epinephrine (epi pen). With a severe reaction like his, and with 90% of patients in anaphylactic shock, the mucosal surfaces become swollen and block the flow of air - meaning the entire surface of his airway from throat to lungs would be swollen. The single incision might save him, but it would be more likely to prolong his death in the absence of steroids that would resolve the swollen airway. Big fan, love your videos and obsessed with this show. <3
