i think there’s something really soft about being bad at something. like, REALLY REALLY bad. fumbling your way through a new hobby with no idea what you’re doing, making mistakes constantly, googling every step. it’s embarrassing in the best way. you’re allowed to suck!!! like suck alot! there’s no pressure to perform or be impressive. back when i first started to practice guitar, i was frustrated about not sounding good after my first day of playing. i didn't even know how to pick correctly or even hold my hand in a way that didn’t make my wrist cramp up. and it made me want to throw the whole thing across the room. but i kept coming back, even if it was just to strum the same three ugly chords over and over. it was shitty and slow and awkward, but it was mine!! unfortunately i did end up selling the guitar because i had to move, but ill get back to playing again i hope.

i feel like we (mainly I) forget how nice it is to just enjoy something without needing to be good at it. it doesn’t have to turn into a side hustle or be productive. it can just be a half-finished painting on your floor or a terribly played song and that’s still something.
