My Journey with Anxiety Part 2

Written Nov. 23, 2017 (Week 1)

(Side Note: I realized I haven't told you guys what medication I am taking. I am currently taking 50mg of Sertraline every night before bed. Feel free to look up more info to find out more about side effects and what it is usually prescribed for. )

So I was told by my doctor that my meds wouldn't start to kick in until about 2 weeks, so I'm not entirely sure if a lot of what I am feeling is a placebo effect, a feeling of relief after talking about my anxiety and opening up, the medication already working quickly, or a combination of any of these options.
I like to think it is a combination. The side effects aren't too bad, I still feel some of them from time to time, but less often as I go.
A cool thing is having incentive to fall asleep quickly. (So that I sleep through the side effects). We also purchase a white noise radio so that seems to help too. So you could say I'm falling asleep quickly and sleeping pretty well.
The first thing I started to notice was my feeling of "understanding". What I mean by this is being able to step outside of the situation and kind of remove myself from the emotional aspect of it. I feel more "aware".

So mostly the first week consisted of becoming more self-aware of my actions and reactions as well as my ability to sleep better. Sorry it's not much of an update, but it's still in the early stages! More soon...

( Second Side Note: Please understand that I'm not a trained professional of any sort. I'm just a person wanting to share my experience in hopes that it will help someone understand that what they are going through is normal and that they CAN find help. Good luck on your own journey and feel free to ask me any questions along the way! )
