Keloid Journey Pt. 2
Added 2018-01-20 20:38:51 +0000 UTCSo about 45 minutes after my treatment I was in agonizing pain for about 7 hours straight with no relief. I sat on my couch screaming out in pain every 5 seconds bawling my eyes out. My skin was burning on the inside, all 3 areas that were treated would often hurt at the same time. The worst was my chest area, but that mixed with my shoulders shooting pain was just awful.
I believe the injections/laser treatments were breaking up the cells in my scars so it was really really causing a lot of commotion in there. I ended up taking 4 Ibuprofen and 2 Tylenol every 3-4 hours and putting numbing cream on them to get my pain level to go from about a 12 to a 9. (on a scale of 1-10). I ended up taking a sleep aid as well to help me get through it. (My mother in law called my doctor to make sure everything I was taking was safe to take, don't worry). I'm so thankful she was there through all of this, we tried everything to get the pain to go down, really I think it was just waiting it out and sleeping that helped the most.
We learned a lot from the experience so I will be requesting a strong pain killer next time to get through it.
Was it worth it? I think so, even though it was the worst pain I've ever endured for that long, if there are results, it will be worth it. The amount of pain I get from doing every day things is just too much and will only get worse if they continue to grow. Best to take care of them now and do my best to endure the side effects.
Here's some photos 3 days after treatment. They are still itchy and a bit sensitive to the touch. Some sharp pain throughout the day, but nothing that a Tylenol can't fix. I'll keep you all updated as progress goes on.

Also, these treatments are usually not covered by insurance and cost around $500 per treatment. I have an amazing doctor that is willing to work with me on price to make it more affordable to be able to continue til they are either gone or have stopped growing and have no sensitivity.
As always, feel free to ask questions and I'll try to answer them the best that I can. Also remember, these are my personal experiences, not professional medical advice. Keloids react differently for different people, so other's experiences and treatments may produce different results. Feel free to share the link to this page to anyone you think it may help!
