LECTURE // using social media to generate income
Added 2021-05-04 09:46:13 +0000 UTC
Last month I did a lecture for the Wacom career days event! It was on using social media to generate income, and gives tips on building a solid social media strategy as well as ways that you can try and generate some income from your social media presence. Iβm uploading it here for you guys, and it also has captions in case you prefer that! It was a livestream session so there's some sponsorship stuff at the beginning you can skip through, as well as some Q&A at the end. I hope you guys enjoy it and let me know if you have any questions after watching it :)
thank you! I used to live in Indonesia when I was little - sometimes I think I should visit again!

Really need to do more micro-posts. I usually just post finished work, but it invariably doesn't do nearly as well as in-process works. Thank you for this...gave me some good advice on how to do better with my social media presence.

thanks so much for your kind words! unfortunately I can't give a lot of advice for that. I mostly got my clients by posting on social media and then getting approached for stuff. I've been very lucky and have very little experience with organizing my portfolio. I'm glad you enjoyed this lecture by the way!

This was so great, thanks so much for sharing this! I donβt know if itβs ok to suggest tutorial topics, but Iβd love to learn more about how you put together and present your portfolio to studios. And how you find studios to send it to. Thanks again for this video, canβt wait to watch the feet and hands one next!

haha it's weird how quickly things change on the internet, it's like we're aging twice as fast.

glad you like it johanna! i think social media is really designed to make people feel guilty and like they're doing things wrong when it doesn't work out! it's important to realize that a platform is just a tool and not a judgement system on the value of your art and posts :)

some platforms are better for micro-content than others! twitter, tumblr and instagram are especially good for that. deviantart and artstation are great for posting your newest and best pieces. good luck :)

I feel inspired to work harder at places like twitter, DA, and art station. I've heard about the concept of micro-posts before too, but I'm still at a loss for ideas to actually do it. I want to though!!

Thank you. It's really hard for beginner artists nowadays to get reach so this is very helpful. I also appreciate you saying if a platform doesn't work for you it's ok.

I missed this lecture, I am very glad that you uploaded it. Very inspiring and a great reminder that we go at different paces. The parts on age had me laughing. Makes me feel old myself. Haha.

if you can find some discords based on shared interests/industries, it can be really fun. it's a great place to have more authentic conversations and swap ideas and tips!

Love any conversation to do with business and art! Thank you for sharing. I hadn't considered getting connected in discord communities. I'll have to add that to my list of things to investigate.

Yay! I'm glad we're going more independent about branding and the business side of the art industry. I feel like so many artist rely on " Cher luck".
Edit: would you consider making a video about books that helped with your art our just well being and creativity?
What elements (tools/technique) you feel can help, enhance our just renew someones art work?
