Attempting to better myself

Sorry for the lack of content recently. I am currently trying to learn Blender. As some as you may know I've been using a program called DAZ Studio since 2008 to produce my content. DAZ Studio is a program that was not designed to do what I do with it, namely using game models. Through years of experimentation and tinkering I eventually discovered a jerry-rig solution to actually do it in DAZ, but it is incredibly broken, time consuming and most of all limiting. I stuck with DAZ out of stubbornness of not wanting to learn something new but I have absolutely reached my limit on what I can do in DAZ.

Blender will absolutely take me awhile to learn, in this time I will still produce content in DAZ so everyone still gets stuff from me, as well as the commission work for my higher Patron pledgers. But it is my goal to eventually learn Blender and fully transition to it which will allow me to produce higher quality content. It's slow going, but I know it'll be worth it in the future.

Good luck to you, Blender is quite challenging and super powerful, but tons of great resources out there. I took a crack at DAZ back when I started (not nearly as long ago as you) and ended up focusing on a pipeline with easier to produce animation, which lead me to Blender. After taking a semester of Game Development last year and sending all of this year tackling Blender I'm finally getting to the point where I can do some damage. The basics seem fairly close to animation and texture management in DAZ, though the morphs are completely different. So I imagine your learning curve won't be nearly as steep as mine. I'm happy to share resources though for getting up to speed if you'd like and a good place to start is Blender Guru and BornCG. Just going through those tutorials get you more than a basic grasp on the interface as well as a preview of some of the more powerful tools.

I hear Blender is worth the time investment to learn. I'm into 3D only as a hobby, but as a primarily GNU/Linux oriented technical professional , I'm naturally interested in anything open source. But since my only motivation in working with 3D is for my own selfish benefit and fun, I've never had the patience or motivation to last more than a few minutes every time I try learning Blender. Between trying to get rid of that starting cube and just figure out how to move around the scene, it's not very long until I realize I'd have more fun just watching porn. But I think you will find it worthwhile, I know a few who have made the switch and never looked back.

Blender is the best, and it's free software, which makes it even more the best. And it runs on GNU, which makes it the best, AGAIN. ;) If you are serious about learning, you will not regret it. It should not take too long since you have experience in DAZ, but take your time, there is plenty of resources to learn Blender out there.
