Study Process
Added 2020-12-24 13:17:08 +0000 UTCFor the first part, I focused the most on the lighting situation, with that light pocket being cast on the pirate's hand and thigh. I also experimented a bit with the process, initially laying temperatures in with a big soft brush and painting over that with a more textured brush.
After that I just did a quick line drawing of the figure, focusing mostly on the form of the folds and the costume.
When doing studies, it's a great practice to have a very concise motive for it - very often your reason/the subject you're studying determines your process/technique.

Thanks dude, Merry Christmas to you too! I like John Buscema, Greg Capullo, Jon Foster and Frazetta for a more comic-y masculine approach, but also Wendling, Rackham, Mucha and the like for their more gestural, elegant aesthetic. Also, Heinrich Kley is an OG and is absolutely awesome :D
