Whatever kind of complex minor forms created by the expression, always have a firm construction of the big features beforehand, that way you can confidently control the (a)symmetry and add the nuances of the expression without ruining the overall form. For an example of this done badly, look at the face on the right. I focused too much on the way the upper lids move in the expression and so I accidentally made one eye slightly lower. Please try not to do this, always keep referring back to the big proportions.
