Up Next: Ms. Dorrado (Nasty Virtual V0.05)

Introducing Ms. Dorrado, the next inspired character coming in Nasty Virtual Version 0.05.

Inspired by Chel from The Road to El Dorado, the sexiest character from any Dreamworks movie ever (in my humble opinion)

In truth I was very happy to see Chel recommended in the character-requests Discord channel (and even more pleasantly surprised to see she got the most votes on the poll, thanks again to all of you that voted - and if you missed out, the next poll is coming up soon).


As for actually creating the character, I correctly expected this to be my most challenging design yet, mostly because working from a stylized 2D inspiration into a somewhat realistic looking 3D character is often quite challenging. Also, there aren't all that many 3D (non-AI) realistic renders of Chel that I could look at for some pointers on how I should approach the design.

However, it was a challenge I definitely enjoyed having over the last week. As for the results, I'll let you guys be the judge of that. 😊

Nasty Virtual V0.05 is almost ready..

Here's a little update on what not to expect ahead of release.

I've decided to postpone a few of the promised features that were originally coming in V0.05. Notably, body piercings and additional clothing items (with the exception of the outfit above) will be pushed back to V0.06.

This is because I am working on a more effective solution to fix many of the 'clothing/accessories clipping through the body' issues (and this solution isn't quite ready).

And since it will likely require me updating a lot of the clothing and any such accessories attached to characters (like piercings), It therefore makes sense to first get that done before adding any more outfits or body accessories - in other words, I'd rather not give myself more work to do than necessary (by preparing additional clothing and piercing options for V0.05, only to then have to rework them again for V0.06)

Most of the other features are still coming as planned, but there might be maybe one other thing postponed to an interim V0.05 release or later.

In truth, I kind of got a little carried away with graphics work. Spent a lot of time trying to extract as much visual quality and performance from the Unity engine as I possibly could without turning my PC fan into a jet engine. (Will be posting another short video to the Twitter account showing off the new and improved visuals pretty soon).

I expect V0.05 to be the biggest visual upgrade yet, and it should also run better than ever before. Also, a lot of this work was done with plans for V0.06 in mind (more on that below)

UPDATE: Having a few frustrating issues compiling the release builds with some of the new graphics shaders. So expect release in the early part of next week.

Heads up for V0.06..

Nasty Virtual is evolving after V0.05, to that effect, preliminary work has started on a new Free Roam game mode with shooter gameplay mechanics for V0.06. I will be running a few polls in the coming week(s) for you guys to help shape the upcoming free-roam game mode.

I'll go into much more detail in those posts, but as an early heads up, I will be leaning on the community to help decide which of these shooter based game concepts I should develop as the first free-roam game mode coming to Nasty Virtual.

A) Dark Horror Shooter with Boss Fights in a large manor/abandoned castle (think Resident Evil but darker)

or B) A Suspense/Thriller Shooter in similarly large residential environment (think a game version of the home invasion parts of 'The Purge' Movie Franchise)

Both will feature punchy gunplay, no melee combat, and having to navigate around in the dark with only a flashlight.

Will post a poll later in the coming week to figure out what the community wants.

Definitely working on improving the visibility and adding options to allow you to change the exposure and brightness of a scene. Although I do think the game will probably always look best in darker/higher contrast room environments as that is what is easiest to make look decent in Unity when you disable shadows (which I have had to do since V0.03 as the performance cost was too high). But I will continue to explore different ways to improve the visibility - especially as I move towards adding free roam into the game. Much better visibility is going to be very important. 👍

FIRST! Take your time, do what you think is best in what order and don't worry! Will any of the graphics changes be affecting the visibility in the different stages? It just seems that the lighting is frustrating on most stages. hope your early summer is looking good!
