The school isn’t just a setting, it is the system: rigid, controlling, and punishing any deviation from the norm. It is not a surprise that the obviously queer students protesting aren’t just fighting for themselves, they’re standing up for everyone trapped under those rules. This happens in the real world as well, protests are taken up by queer people first a lot of the time. Akk and his friend (Neo) are great examples of internalized homophobia. Akk’s fear of disappointing his parents and losing his place in that system reflects how queerness often feels like a threat to love and acceptance. Neo’s character is afraid of being judged, of being seen differently, which is so real. Even the "token straight boy" faces pressure from his family to follow a specific path, showing that the system restricts everyone, not just queer kids. And Thua? Quietly out but keeping his head down until graduation (even though i hate that he outed them), much like me lol, that’s such a real kind of queer experience too. Not hiding, just surviving. Then you have Aye, the only one who seems to see through the system and tries to break it down and help everyone out. Every character shows a different way people navigate repression, whether by resisting, conforming, or laying low. It’s more than just a school drama or BL, it’s a story about queerness, fear, and resistance in the face of systemic control. Can you tell how much I love this show lmaooo. FirstKhao did a big one for me with this one, hope you check more of them (Only Friends would be a great next one for a little messy queer show lol)
