Three Square Meals - Chapter 130 (combined)
Added 2020-04-17 15:36:41 +0000 UTC*** EDITED - FINAL VERSION - 3rd May - fixed a few typos. ***
Hey everyone!
I've finished editing both halves of Chapter 130 (~60k words) and have combined them together as it will appear on the free sites.
I added a few minor bits and pieces as well as fixed the typos and grammar mistakes. Please let me know if you spot any errors I might have missed!
Cheers

I don't what it is but the Tom framed for treason subplot just bugs me.

2021-03-05 02:17:23 +0000 UTCI still see 22 instances of lower case dad instead of Proper noun title case Dad. These are not generic instances of dads being mentioned in general but of specific dads being mentioned. I think caps were okay five or six times. Not trying to be too nitpicky, just something I noticed. ...still my favorite story.

2020-05-04 22:28:33 +0000 UTCRegarding American pronunciations being the same as the original English accent, I've heard that before too, but as Guy House said, it seems unlikely. There's a huge variation of accents in America, but far more in the UK. At the bare minimum there's a north/south divide on a bunch of words: Bath, grass, ask, tooth etc are pronounced very differently. If you google them and click for a pronunciation, you'll hear the "Queen's English" (southern) version of those words. Here's an example (for grass). (Scottish - similar to Birmingham upwards... rhymes with ass): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_aXzcwFOV8 (Queen's English - the South... rhymes with arse): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8Juzkhq9Ls

2020-04-21 21:37:47 +0000 UTCNope it's a british slang. Also the Aussies would say" Tucka" meaning food. ei: get a bit of tucka.

2020-04-21 00:30:37 +0000 UTCI can say as an American and speaking only for myself. I thought stuck in was a typo for tuck in. Tuck in I have heard of and was familiar with, plus Tefler has used that phrase before.

2020-04-20 21:03:13 +0000 UTCThis is why I asked. Thanks :)
2020-04-20 20:33:35 +0000 UTCIt is true! There are numerous clues (but no tape recordings sadly!). Like spelling, the US ones are almost always the original English. Not to mention the difference in the pint - 16oz in USA = 1 pound of water and 20oz in the UK because our tax collectors hid an increase in duty on beer behind a redefinition of the pint.

2020-04-20 19:38:57 +0000 UTCTimbo As a Brit I can confirm ‘Get stuck in’ is very common idiom indeed, and whilst multi-purpose could certainly be used in the context it is here. ‘Tuck in” is indeed used as you have described, buuutt... the context is ever so school-marm -ish. Sort of thing your grandma would say when u go round for Sunday lunch, perhaps... Would ring odd in the context used here We’re an odd bunch ;-)

2020-04-20 19:28:59 +0000 UTCLOL, never said anything about not giving Tefler a chance, just trying to kill some time, that's all!
Rhys
2020-04-20 17:55:37 +0000 UTCIn ch 130 Calara says "Feel free to get stuck in" during breakfast, shouldn't that be "Feel Free to Tuck in"? as in the below definition: The Oxford English Dictionary says the verb tuck (often tuck in or tuck into) meaning "to eat heartily or greedily" is from 1810. The simpler sense "to consume or swallow food or drink" is from 1784, and means to 'put away', 'put out of sight' Or am i missing something, and it a British thing? just curious.
2020-04-20 17:39:28 +0000 UTCGive Tefler a chance, he didn't finish editing 130 till the 17th. (Not that it will stop me checking at least once a day, but that's probably just me...).

2020-04-20 12:20:37 +0000 UTCLOL, shall we start the next round of everyones' favorite guessing game: When do they think the next chapter will drop, this month or the next? heh heh......
Rhys
2020-04-20 11:50:05 +0000 UTCConsidering the sheer number of different accents in the UK and the variance you can get in driving 50 miles from one town to the next, I can't see it. Particularly when you then consider the variance of accents and usage in the US, from NY to NOLA to Texas. Which one is the same as Old English? I am Australian and our accent and usage makes most Poms want to claw their eardrums out.
2020-04-20 10:24:08 +0000 UTCOh, that reminds me of an interesting Fun Fact. I will preface by saying that I am nowhere near historian enough to confirm whether this is true, but I recently read that the "English" accent back in Ye Olde Days was actually closer to what is now the modern American accent. Sometime after Colonization of the Americas, accents and word usage back home in Britain evolved into the current form, whereas accents abroad did not, meaning that English usage here on the west side of the pond is actually closer to the original "Queens English". Cool, huh?
2020-04-20 09:13:03 +0000 UTCBy British usage do you mean proper English? 😜
2020-04-20 06:35:07 +0000 UTC“We got the introductions out the way earlier.” —> “We got the introductions out of the way earlier.” I skipped most of the items that appeared to be simply British usages, but I couldn’t find this one when I was looking it up. Excellent LONG chapter, Tefler! I really enjoyed reading it all again!

2020-04-19 16:26:06 +0000 UTCI have actually envisioned an interesting scenario regarding this: it seems highly likely that should John go to the Larathyran Empire with a bunch of Maliri to crew the ships, he will recruit Aurelei, that botany girl we followed in an earlier chapter. Should he feed her three times, he will be forced into the Astral sans the protection of the Shroud. Given Xar’Aziuth’s powers, perhaps without the interference of the Shroud he could take a more genteel appearance, like classic British nobleman with impeccable suit and tie. An evil tea party to boot, too, in order to better gauge John’s attitude and state of mind over biscuits and scones ;), pardon the pun.

2020-04-19 03:32:29 +0000 UTCit's entirely possible he will not go outside the shroud.
2020-04-19 03:09:16 +0000 UTCwondering how John will fare when they go get Larn’kelnar’s thrall ships. He will be out from under protection of the Shroud and exposed to Xar’aziuth et al.

2020-04-18 19:43:34 +0000 UTCYay! I was planning on doing a reread of Ch. 130. Not that I needed an excuse, but this gives me one more reason to reread.

2020-04-18 19:39:56 +0000 UTCAlso, try adding a suffix to file as you download it, like combo, if it automatically downloads, change your browser settings to "ask file location before downloading", hope that helps!!!

2020-04-18 13:13:57 +0000 UTCYou definitely heard right, cause I heard that too and was breathlessly waiting for a chapter to drop at around the 15th this month, sadly it seems not to be the case. Tefler did say that with the lock down and thus his children being home all day watching wholesome children TV, that he did have problems getting his dirty mind on once his kids have gone to bed. So that might be a crux

2020-04-18 04:14:05 +0000 UTCEarlier (1March), I noted that waaaay back (circa 70pg14 and earlier) there is mention of duplicating the copy of Nexus server (Faye's host) at Invictus gateways, etc. around the ship. The Invictus-Node-Collective is using one, but apparently thats the only one and thus no distribution of Meta-Faye... oh well. Also wondering why none of the girls have commented on the Organic Computers used by Kirrix, which were accessible by Illirth and psychically by the Hive Queens (and presumably Alyssa). Perhaps that tech might inspire them to build an organic gateway for I-N-C and Faye 2.0 ?

2020-04-18 00:26:29 +0000 UTCThanks very much for the reply and I'm glad to hear that you've been enjoying the story for the past year. I have several friends who are medics working for the NHS and some of their stories are awful about dealing with the pandemic. I hope you continue to stay in good health and thank you for all your hard work saving lives in these troubling times.

2020-04-17 22:40:41 +0000 UTCI use a # symbol when I want to add notes to a chapter that I can search for and find easily. I've checked my master copy of 117 and that's not in there any more, so it must have been a reminder I added based on a patron suggestion. I uploaded that version to the chapter 117 post, so that should be the latest one now.
Tefler
2020-04-17 20:15:37 +0000 UTCTefler, I've been going through older chapters and the start of 117 seems off. The first paragraph is just "# mention of Maliri ground assault.", did you forget to put something in there? Having said that, thank you for this latest chapter :)

2020-04-17 16:35:41 +0000 UTCThank you so much for your work, sir Tefler. As a healthcare professional, these past few weeks have been the equivalent of astral nightmares for me. Im not asking you to hurry up and churn out new chapters, by any means, please take your time. I’ll gladly wait. I want you to know that TSM has been a beacon of light for me since i discovered it a nearly a year ago. I love the story, all the characters, the invictus crew and also the villains are masterfully crafted. I wish you and your crew nothing but the very best of health and happiness the galaxy has to offer.
