Holy cow, I definitely didn't see that chapter ending comming! What a brutal really check for John and the girls. I'm gonna dive straight into chapter 121, because the suspense is killing me. I hope all the girls are gonna make it. I've become quite attached to them. Keep up the superb writing, Tefler!

I haven't read the next chapter but I am going to guess the nymphs ,that are definitely still alive,are going to play a major part in saving John and the girls. I like how the progenitor just showed up and gave John and his girls a real wake up call in how big the gap is between the two of them. However, I think the gap that is between the two groups in technology is far far closer in terms of pure psychic power, if not Johns group being vastly superior to the other progenitors group. Combine the nymphs, the little to no difference in psychic might and the fact that the progenitor has decided to completely underestimate John and his girls,like he has done throughout the story(if he is indeed the same progenitor who has been stirring shit up but now I think that might have been John's dad implementing his plan), and you have the three things which will most likely lead to John and the girls surviving this encounter.

I believe that this is John dreaming. After all, we left him laying down on the bed in the Rators bedroom staring at the ceiling, while waiting for the ladies to finish exploring the Progenitor ship for tech.

He's focused on getting 121 done and in our hands so as to avoid the lynch mob that is waiting in the wings from this ending.

Sobbing, heartbroken moans broke the silence in John’s bedroom. Calera screamed and clawed frantically at the bedding as she suddenly awakened from a horrifying dream. Swiftly glancing at the chronometer but virtually ignoring the gift shop snow globe on John's nightstand with its snow inexplicably swirling rapidly around a tiny model of the Invictus, Calera miraculously managed to avoid tripping over a small cleaning 'bot as she followed the sound of running water to the bathroom where she saw a tall but slightly distorted form moving under the spray in the hot and steamy shower. Calera hesitantly opened the shower door and John slowly turned and smiled invitingly.

Is there going to be a final version of CH120 in the near future? You have done this with all of the other chapters...... ?

I agree: the characterization of John has been off for quite a while. It is perhaps not fair to say he panics in most situations, but he often does not have the reactions of a trained soldier. Whether this is a deliberate choice by Tefler or not, I do not know.

I must say, John is in the last chapters till now, really a little whiny pussy, he is a ex marine or not? I mean yeah he has feelings for his girls, but he is a man with combat experience so he should know what to do in the most situations, but in most situations he panics. But the ending of the chapter is really good

Faye will be recovered from her mighty server room safe house. The heaven lights will dim, as Progenitor Alyssa's scorn will be unleashed, further tempered by the rage of her sisters. Poor old Larn'kelner? Who?

What type size and page size? :P Because in point 1 font on an A1 page, mayyyybe two or three columns of even width, no leading or trailing space before or after paragraphs, paragraphs indented, one line of leading space indicating change of scene, this is a very small story :D

Wow, I expected something like the Invictus getting destroyed to happen sooner or later but to Larn’kelnar simply catch John like that - mind blown -. Excitement level for next chapter 1000+ !

I think the crew had planned on upgrading the ship their way, (as in doing things completely different to std progen practice) a smaller more agile ship should be able to out fight a a bigger vessel. Assuming they have their shields up!!

Almost since the beginning, Tefler has been prepping us for a ‘War-of-the Worlds’ scenario. Well, he crushed that idea. We expected a Royal Battle with all of the ‘good guys’ beating the crap out of a progenitor but along came Mr. Evil and he wins the day. Cheers Tefler and thank you; I love what you did here. Everything went tits up before we knew what was happening. Now everyone wants to know how John can get out of this. Easy, only has about a million different ways to rescue John and the girls. This is four possible – ranging from serious consideration to outright ludicrous: 1. Rahn has true precognisance – remember John gave this to Calara, but she has only used it for a short time and Rahn has used it for millennia. Rahn knew Larn’kelnar would capture him, and John would rescue him. 2. Alyssa is a progenitor, and Larn’kelnar failed to capture her. Alyssa and Athena attack through the sub/nightmare plane. Between Alyssa, Athena, Nkkrrit, and a few billion Ashanath, Larn’kelnar is dead meat. 3. Sakura, Jade, and her sisters become Valkyrie escorting a very dead Larn’kelnar into the afterlife – remember what Sakura uses in battle. Do you think it was named by accident? 4. Only the middle power-core was damaged, so the fore and aft power-core can power both ends of the Invictus. With power restored, Faye can rescue our intrepid warriors, and she can don her evil AI persona and kick the shit out of Larn’kelnar. Regardless of how you proceed Tefler, I am sure you will continue to entertain us.

I don’t think this is going to be resolved here. If John or the crew somehow killed him the story is prety much over. At that point nothing else is a threat to them so they just go back to Valaden and live hapylly ever after. End of story. I get the impression that there is still a lot more to go on the storyline specially with the Brimordians.

Well the invictus was obsolete now that Dana has most of the plans for the progenitor ship so I guess is a good way to get rid of it. However (assuming they get away) is going to take a long time to build a replacement ship so I’m not sure what they are going to do. Obviously John is going to be out of the picture for a while as there is no way the girls can hope to rescue him. I figure that the next few chapters will probably focus on what is happening in the rest of the galaxy.

I'm still curious about what Jessica was on the verge of telling John about his father and Rhan... I'm leaning towards "They're not the same". Both times Jessica has shown any initiative in the direction of the conversation, it's after John has referred to Rahn as his father, but she hesitates past the window of communication.

Well, this chapter left me with an "at the edge of my seat" feeling waiting to see how it unfolds. I know Alysa got her suit on and Rachel can also project a shield so the girls on the Raptor should be alright. Jade's sisters may be able to shift into a form that will protect themselves from the impact with the planet? If not, John can bring them back to life he’s done it before with Jade. As for Faye; “Faye’s the server, not the chassis! All power’s down!”. I would have thought they would have a remote server added in the Raptor by now or a least a backup power supply. If any crew member is lost during this engagement it will most likely be Faye. Larn'kelnar is an overconfident peacock who is about to have his a-- handed to him by Johns crew. It wasn't said that the hanger doors have been closed yet, just that they have been pushed through the atmospheric shielding. Jade can fly back in and still pump enough power back into John to get him back in action, and Alyssa can cause enough damage to draw Larn'kelnar attention and allow John to end him. Hopefully the thralls become submissive to him once he has killed their master. Either way, John and crew have a new ship. As for John’s dad and mom. I think that after he talks with them and finds out his true intent behind his birth. He’ll either be forced to kill them outright or leave them abandoned back on Arcadia. If he does, he’ll have to drop them in a new area of the planet and destroy His ship completely. It had to be broadcasting some kind of signal otherwise Larn'kelnar wouldn’t have been able to find him. Unless he left him there in the first place. Anyway, I’m loving it and can’t wait to see what happens next.

No chance at defiance or retaliation. I truly hope that's a pre cognition vision and not real. Ok now that the bad was said now for the good.... DAM that was intense! Very well written and technicality sound. Now I await to see if the next chapter redeems the story. :)

To a Progenitor, Terran tech is downright primitive. Wouldn't be that hard to figure out especially if you had eyes on it, which he did via Jessica. As for John, what would have been the point of keeping him on Arcadia? There's no women for John to conquer on that rock, no way for him to grow his own power and claim his rightful place among the stars. If Rahn had kept John on Arcadia, they would have ended up fighting, with one killing the other. If Rahn killed John, that would have been a waste of time and energy simply conceiving him. If John killed Rahn, Jessica likely would have died as well, leaving John all alone on the planet, and no women to turn into Thralls. Plus, as we know from Rachel's research, John's Progenitor DNA didn't fully activate until he claimed Alyssa as his matriarch, which included the Progenitor immortality. With no women on Arcadia to claim, John's immortal DNA would never have activated and he'd eventually die of old age.

Something is not right on Arcadia. Jessica did not get pregnant by accident. Why did Ranagon make her leave the child on Terra? Why kill the old crew by blowing up the research vessel, then steal a corvette and return to Arcadia? If it was to keep the existence of the planet, the progenitor and his ship a secret, they could have hidden until the others left. It couldn't have been to hide John, his ears and quad were a dead giveaway that he was unique. Ranagon has been stuck on Arcadia for 10,000 years. He should not know the layout of Terran vessels, or how to sabotage one, and Jessica was stuck in the brig all the way home, so she could not have learned for herself. Jessica would not know how to operate a Corvette single handed, she was a xenobiologist. So many questions. Any thoughts people?

Ooooooh Tefler. That chapter began to be an emotional turmoil when they ran into Jessica and it played out like nothing (at least I would have) imagined. But the n the end of the chapter? I was bitig my nails and was more on edge with my emotions than I have been about a book for quite a long time. I hope you don't start to let important charakters die now. That would be awful after this chapter. This was written masterfully. Thank you!

Very well. We had it before when Mr. Blake was kidnapped the first time. 1st - His girls go absolutely berserk to get him back, discovering new powers within themselves to handle the challenge. Dana will be able to fix the Invictus with her mental GEO abilities. 2nd - Time for Faye, her daughter, her boys and the nymphs to show witch stuff they are made of. 3rd - Finally the right setting for John to face his guide without fear to endanger his girls. I’m looking forward to an epic rescue mission...

RH being Mad Jonah actually has potential to make a twisted kind of sense. Jessica having returned to him with a Corvette would have given him the means to return near enough to T-fed space to "exchange" it with somebody else, and masquerade as a trader(and keep tabs on John) while putting things in motion for whatever his own game happens to be, with the "tip" being the thing to set events in motion on John's end. It just becomes a question of how good RH is at anticipating future events(with 10,000 years of potential time to study them). Edit on 6 April: It is possible "Mad Jonah" could be MN rather than RH.

I think Rahn'hagan is in the situation he's in because he chose to be in it. I also strongly suspect that he wasn't idle during his thousands of years living in Arcadia. I'm inclined to suspect things are very much not what they seem to be, and even LK himself is possibly a bit player in what's going on in Arcadia right now. I guess we'll find out the answer to that when/if he tries to leave Arcadia, but even then. Plenty of SciFi options for how somebody can leave somewhere without actually leaving.

Aha! Took me forever to find it, but Faye's server was lurking in Chapter 67: He nodded his understanding, then asked, "And this is going to be much safer for her, right? Once she's been transferred to the new server, we won't have to worry about your old hacking deck and that portal from getting disconnected." "Absolutely," Irillith replied with confidence. "Once we've transferred her to the new platform, there's all sorts of redundancies and backup power supplies to make sure she won't be accidentally shut down. Even if she is, the new system can reboot her easily."

Well, given Tefler's comment that the next chapter starts in the Shuttle, and the not-so-subtle cut-away with Alyssa and Jessica, I suspect that at least Alyssa probably knows more than she's "supposed to" in regards to Rahn'hagon and whatever HE was up to. As I also agree he wasn't sitting on his thumbs for 40 years, and as he isn't MN. There is not much reason, story wise, for him NOT to then use Jessica to start popping out thralls "to get things moving again." Unless "recruiting nubiles" was supposed to be John's job. (And doesn't match Jessica's story, John evidently wasn't supposed to find them, or at least, not as soon as he did.) It still leaves open other questions, as RH had crashed there millennia before. What has he been doing during all of that time? Evidently he wasn't spending his time trying to repair or maintain the ship. So what was he doing? Something tells me LK is playing "RH's game" so long as they remain in, or near, Arcadia. The question is, "What are the rules?" I'm betting Alyssa and RH are the only two who know right now. Although why John seems to have been left in the dark at least until LK upped the anti is another question. Maybe he was alerted once they were in Raptor, and we'll learn about it in 121, or maybe not. I'm quite possibly wrong.

The loss of the Invictus (if it is lost - the two crashed pieces may be recoverable) reminded me a bit of the loss of the Liberator at the end of Season 3 of "Blake's Seven", a 1980s UK space opera about a team of misfits originally led by a guy called Roj Blake. Season 4 was really different as a result, as the team no longer had an exceptional starship, so they had to rely on their own resources much more. It could be argued that the fourth season was more compelling as a result.

Another thought we know that lark probably thinks that the thralls including johns matriarch are dead this cutting john off from all his extra power, but john has three and by now Alyssa is a female progenitor. As some others have theorized I think the guide is going to have some plat here also it will fuck with larn and his expectations of how things go down.

Agree, either Larn's shaking was so forceful Alyssa is KO'd and everyone else is pulverized to wet spots all over the deck, or Alyssa is a little bruised and everyone else is KO'd (except maybe Jade if she managed to switch forms or increase her density in time). Since the Raptor "tumbled" toward the hangar door, Alyssa had plenty of time to put up a sheild or telekinetically move everyone behind a bulkhead, out of view of the dismissive progenitor. I'm guessing she comes out in flight mode all "Vengeance is mine!" and single-handedly destroys all the thralls, evening the odds against the more experienced progenitor.

I'm so ready for the next Chapter! Until them I'm worried!

I am eager to see more about the Progenitor race and what makes them tick. As Progenitors go, this may be John’s father’s plan. Live at the garden cottage until the boy grows up and is ready to take over the family business. At the end of his career he found love and tried to save his “family” ... pushing the Malari out of his life for their safety, finding a planet for Jade’s species. Isn’t it interesting how John has found those very people to build his strength around. What a story and a half!

John and Alyssa are in Paragon Armour that can get knocked through combat bulkheads and used as batting practice by hive queens. They would no more be knocked out or even made dizzy by a little shaking without stirring inside the Raptor than the crew of a Challenger 2 main battle tank would be rendered senseless by a determined assault with a full basket of hard-boiled Easter Eggs.

Here's the problem with events like this. Eventually we either will just look forward to the triumphant return. (think and I hate this comparison... Dragon ball z.) and be ok with whatever and it will loose impact. Or... We will just be meh about character trauma and read this as just another skin flick waiting on the next scene with boobs. If either of those happen I won't need to be here to read them and will just go back to waiting on the next literotica posting and read it if and when I get around to it. Not to say I see that happening. The last time I was like.. Ohhh fuck you Tefler.... Was when jade got killed. So I Don't think the pacing is too bad yet.

LK's axe was dispelled by the runes Dana had placed on the armor of the Raptor protecting against psychic attacks and manipulation. Those are a passive ability for Dana and do not require her to be conscious to work. Place and forget, basically.

A reassuring thought. I know everyone noticed that Larn's axe bounced off the Raptor, so he had to have his thralls blast their way in through using their laser cannons, right? I'm assuming it bounced off due to one of the girl's, probably Rachel's, projected shield. So count on an exciting Chapter 121. All Larn has really succeeded in doing is piss the girls off, and hopefully given John a very sever head slap and wake up call as to what his priorities need to be now.

I’ve said this on Discord, but I want to make sure I say it here as well. In my humble opinion, this has been your best chapter since Chapter 100. This actually might be better than Chapter 100 and be the best chapter of the story to date. From the way you gave everyone on the ship a little spotlight (except Helene as apparently you don’t like her ...joking), to the way Dana and the Twins where looking into updates for the Invictus, to the way you handled the introduction to Jessica and her unexpected attitude, and finally to the way you RIPPED THE INVICTUS INTO FUCKING HALF! *cough* Excuse me, I mean to the way you gave us a delightful and unexpected cliffhanger like the which we’ve never had before. I can honestly say I never saw that coming (damn wormhole generator). While part of my REALLY wants chapter 121 now, I know it’s important to you to take the time to make it even better. So you do you, and just turn off the notifications of every addict who wants the next chapter. Keep up the amazing work!

Elsewhere Tefler has advised that "Psychic shields preventing incoming energy and kinetic attacks, but they don't cushion falling damage". I would argue that a fast approaching floor is simply a massive kinetic hammer. The shields may be able to mitigate that. I also draw on shields preventing tunnels from falling on people - again a moving kinetic hammer, not a focused strike. It's all about perspective. "Am I moving and it isn't, or is it moving and I'm not?" Functionally no difference but here we're getting into physics territory...

Yes, that's right. There's their progress as a crew (enhancing their psychic abilities) and their technological progress with the ship. The Invictus is a tool that helped John and the girls defeat progressively more powerful enemies and increased their abilities as a result.

A lot can be overlooked in this chapter, especially when that ending has such a huge impact. But I thought it was interesting when Rill and Shan had such a visceral reaction to the thrall's presence on Rahn's ship. I wonder if thrall species are molded to be extremely hostile around other rival thrall species.

In this and recent chapter 10x Crystal Alyssium is damaged by energy beams, when it was established far earlier in the story that 8x Crystal Alyssium was 100 percent reflective for energy beams. Either Tefler forgot, or he hoped that we forgot.

1) Psychic shields don't protect the user from falling damage. 2) Calara's prescience doesn't work that way. She has to be concentrating on a ship or a person, with the ability activated to foresee disaster. She can then attempt to alter that future. It's an ability that takes considerable psychic energy (IIRC I mentioned this when she's used it in battles) and she has to be actively using it. They'd already been on Arcadia for a few hours, and after hearing that Larn'kelnar left a week ago, Calara wouldn't keep it activated.

I found this the most engaging chapter in some time, and really enjoyed it... well, erm, most of it, anyway! There really was nice character development with the Nymphs, the side-stories were fun and intriguing, and the big reveal with Jessica was great. However, it felt a bit rushed, especially the final curve-ball. For some time it has been clear that Larn'kelner is so powerful, he could overpower John at any moment, but has (inexplicably) chosen not to. Now (inexplicably) he chooses to do so. Of course there are plenty of clues here, e.g., he captured Rahn'hagon just before he knew John would reach Arcadia. But for a "family reunion" he could have captured John and Rahn'hagon at any time. There are many other questions opened here. For instance, what were Rahn'hagon and Jessica doing playing "The Good Life" for 40 years, ignoring the rest of the galaxy and not even having kids? In the light of the April Fools/Dream comments, I was reminded of "Aria with Diverse Variations" in "Godel, Escher, Bach" by Douglas Hofstadter, in which he disguises the real end of the story by adding a fake ending. It will be interesting to see how this abrupt departure from the plot so far will be resolved.

Tefler thanks for another chapter, however the ending has left me with several significant logic gaps. 1) given all the psychic shielding in earlier text, once Larn started rocking the boat so to speak with the raptor, why didn't those who shield shield themselves? Hence, it needs a scene from within the raptor as to why this couldn't or didn't occur. 2) agree with several others why didn't Calara's prescience of the ambush come in? In all other aspects of it's use it has been rather a passive process, not something she actively engaged, particularly given they knew Larn' had been out and about :), which should have had her spider senses on full alert. So unfortunately, the last few pages is a little like 3 week old celery in the fridge, somewhat limp and tasteless. It suggest that the ending was somewhat deadline rushed ;-) Mal

This was a narrative device used by Tefler to disguise the fact that Larn'kelner just let Alyssa and co escape, because he regards them as irrelevant thralls.

One thing I would suggest as a possible edit, for clarification's sake, at least for sloppy readers like me - at the very end, when the raptor tumbles out of the ship, the text reads "exposing the handful of thralls within to the vacuum of space" I initially thought that a few of jerkbutt's crew got caught in the tumble or something. I realize upon a second reading that while the narrative perspective is still third person, we're reading through the filter of jerkbutt's POV (I don't recall his exact name) I think it wouldn't hurt, especially with a scene this pivotal, if the "handful of thralls" was changed to "John's crew" or something similar. Just a suggestion.

Holy Crap. Didn’t see that coming. I at first agreed with the commentaries that John had been wasting his time. But thinking back, John for half of the story had no idea that a confrontation was in his future. He progressed at his glacial (?) pace...while it’s years in our lives it is weeks in story time. He has created another progenitor ally, saved races that have built him a lot of positive karma, created strengths and psychic abilities and allies different from his enemy, his girls are not thralls as much as mini-progenitors in their right. I think this opera isn’t over till the fat alien sings.

This is April fools day lol, but it was a good chapter. Looking forward to the next one. In my humble opinion John has had the luck of the Irish throughout the story, the Invictus has had a good run but so many upgrades maybe it was time to start from scratch? Now that John has been sucker punched I’m thinking that even if this portion of the story is real and not a dream sequence the follow up should be very fun.

Prediction: It’s time for John and the girls to quit playing around and the gloves to come off. John will have to face his dark side and fully absorb him, finally accepting and becoming a true progenitor with all his powers. Alyssa will also have to finally fully absorb Athena into herself embracing and becoming a true progenitor, and powerful will she be. The other girls will open up to the true and full extent of the powers gifted to them from John and an ass whooping is on the horizon. The twins have already shown disdain for the thralls so I don’t imagine that any that get in their way will survive. The bad guy will soon be running off with his tail between his legs, which of course sets us up for his return with his army to meet John’s combined forces.

I personally had hoped that John had been establishing a new... Good guy white progenitor ship to rival the black ones.

Pretty good chapter Tefler. I mean... The cliffhanger was a bit hum drum. But you know gold star for a good effort and all. (innerly seethes and both demands a new chapter and the innards of this bastard strung across the floor and hung from his rafters.) But in reality no it was an effective lesson and if it wasn't a precognative vision then they are all in trouble. This just shows that the tech level between them and the progenitor had centuries of development to go. I mean think about it. They were gearing up to go progenitor to progenitor. They thought they had given their allies a fighting chance. This makes what the malari did to the Kirrix look like a 8 year old beating up a six year old in a school yard fight as compared to an mma fighter/assassin dismembering that same combatant with practiced ease. That's my view. Basically it puts all of the running around and getting upgrades and not following the guide as a wasted effort. Because the gain was for naught. No wonder the other progenitor was laughing over all of this and not worried. Not to mention intentionally saved John a few times. He never has been a threat. Even when he thought John could down a dragon ship (whatever the race was called) just with a big bolt of psychic lightening. It was still nothing on the scale of what they can do. In short other than some steamy sex scenes the ending just threw out the previous 120 chapters of advancement as purely wasted time on the part of the 'heroes'. That is.. If what we read as happened actually happened. Plenty of avenues to have that not be the case.

Just noted an inconsistency, Tef. When John and Leylira are going to dojo for the shield demo, you state they dropped down a level to Deck Three. Weren't they already on Deck Three, having been in the Observatory and crossing the Lagoon?
