Status Update - Chapter 103

Hey everyone!

I've just finished part 1 of chapter 103 and handed it over to my editors. I'm aiming to have part 2 finished by the 10th, then I'll either launch into eBook 4, or just continue with chapter 104. It largely depends where I'm up to at the end of the chapter, and what devilish cliffhanger I leave it on! :-)

Thanks very much for the artist recommendations. I've had a quick browse through all the links and there are some great artists there! I'll reach out to them and see if they are interested in taking commissions.

I hope you guys enjoyed the additional bits I added to eBook 3, which hopefully tied things together a bit better with the Ashanath High Council and their initial reactions to John. It was tricky adding new scenes, because I didn't want to accidentally reveal anything about the Legacy etc.

Now I just have to come up with some fun new additions to eBook four! It will cover chapters 31-37, which covers the Fernandez family meeting, the Battle of Iota Leonis, recruiting Rachel, and the award ceremony. They were some fun chapters to write the first time around, so I'm looking forward to reading them again. :-)

Poor Tefler. Words keep breeding... 2 becomes 4... 4 becomes 12... 1500 becomes... ;-)

Evan

@Rayliegh big fan of you name and profile pic!

Lol

Probably passed out drooling on the nice mechanical keyboard.

Refresh is the Tefler version of the Indian rain dance. The Indians kept dancing until it rained. We keep refreshing until Tefler post.

Wow. It's now after 02:00 in the morning for Tefler! I'm not sure that I don't hope that he gets some sleep and posts in the morning! However, based on his history, he won't...

Evan

Well it's 1am here do I stay up for another 30 minutes, or do I get up just after 7 and read it before the day begins, questions, questions, f5 f5 just in case

Luckily it is an hour hop. No WiFi in a 30 seater and cellular not allowed while airborne in Oz. I was being a drama queen, it's not like it is a 12 hour flight out of Oz ;^)

You can still use your cellular connection until they close the doors, and then, quite a few planes have Wi-Fi onboard. Good luck and have a safe flight.

Evan

Man that would suck. How long is your flight?

ChrisW

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hopefully you beat my boarding time so i can read it on the plane.

Yay my day off today, and about an hour or so to wait

Still my birthday! Yeaaaa!

Big Dude

Thanks for the update Tefler

Thanks for letting us know!

Arrowglass

dammit....off to work shortly!! Oh well afterwork reading.....yay!!

Great!!

Outstanding!!!

I've got about 1500 words still to go, then I'll do a bit of editing on part 1. I want to clean up a few typos and make a couple of changes that the editors suggested. I'll probably be finished in about 3-4 hours (Maybe 1am GMT).

Tefler released ch102

Tefler doesn't really have any control over when the chapter appears on Lit. It has to be reviewed by the moderators after he submits it and that can take several days, maybe even a week or more. He typically submits it to Lit when he posts the final version here. Back when he started this Patreon page, he used to submit the chapter to Lit at the same time he posted it here, giving us Patrons a few days to read it before it appeared on Lit. Now he posts the chapter here as soon as he's done writing, and submits it to Lit when the editing is all done, giving us the better part of several weeks to read the chapter before it appears on Lit.

Jedi Khan

Tefler just posted 102 on Literotica...something he does right before posting the next one on Patreon!!!

Arrowglass

Tefler usually gives us the chapter as soon as part 2 is done, roughly the same time that he sends it off to the editors. He then updates the chapter a few days later with the edits from both us and his editors.

Jedi Khan

So, I hate to be a bother... No you don't Crazy. ...but are we still on track for 103 coming out tomorrow, the 10th?

The Invictus has a holo-suite on Deck Three, built by Dana and Faye, where Calara runs her fleet coordination activities. Even the dojo has programmable holos of various settings. What if Irillith recreated a holoprojection of the picnic location on Maya's World for Faye's first date with John -- when maybe she receives her engagement ring, too. The dojo could be ideal for this, especially since a bed and shower are already nearby.

Revelations and speculations during the debriefing AAR suggested important possibilities for Irillith and the other Lionesses. Taking that speculation forward, she might already be more powerful than she realizes and with practice might be able to supercede all expectations. Her ability to spirit walk and split her mind/consciousness between real space and cyber space may allow her to bridge psychic connections to hack more than one ship at a time. Her Electrokinesis could manifest the ability to cut down crews on multiple ships while hijacking its systems and weapons. Also, she might be able to form giant lighting storms, like John, and direct powerful electrical bolts at her enemies. What about electrical minions like Tashana's fire sprites -- that would be cool. Her multi-ships hack attacks could cause chaos as whole squadrons shoot, ram and crash into each other. Alyssa and Tashana assure her that with more practice, she will become stronger. That discussion opens up many possibilities that applies to the psychic potentials of the other Girls, as well.

Plot Guess: Faye will have her first date with John -- a) During repairs on Olympus Station; b) Prior to expelling the Kirrix back across the border; c) On the way to Genthalas Station; d) After arriving while at Genthalas; or e) After leaving Genthalas? Ok, I will guess "C."

A.E. van Vogt's Silkie could imagine a destination and "be" there, no matter where in the universe or how far away.

Fold space?

You don't have to be a believer - everybody knows they travel by WILL only. This type of travel is restricted to progenitors, angels and the lot... :-)

Heinz Molck

To throw out something to JFL as a beliver in Jesus, how come God's angels can move faster than light?

Big Dude

Deke, you haven't forgotten anything. Tefler did add new scenes and make additional revisions that are not on Lit, nor will they ever be. Tefler has said the ebooks are essentially a "director's cut" of the story.

Jedi Khan

How long did it take you to come up with and type this thesis?

Jedi Khan

I think you have a good start on John's version of the "Twelve Days of Christmas"!

There has been some debate on here about the Physical Impossibility of Quantum space travel. I, for one, believe in what can be quantified and/or experimentally verified. This is a bit involved, but I have done my best to engage all levels of readers here. Please give it a shot. To the Physicists out there, I realize I gloss over some current issues and things are a bit more complicated at this time than I present…but put this in the context of the human race and advances in Physics over several hundred years with the mindset that the acquisition and application of knowledge is exponential in nature. It is true that current commonly accepted physical theories imply or assume the photon to be strictly massless due to Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, E=MC2 (Keep in mind that, in the scientific world, science theory is different than science fact). In this equation E or total energy must be equal to the total mass of a system multiplied by the speed of light squared. According to Einstein’s proposition: If the Photon is not a strictly massless particle, it would not move at the exact speed of light, ‘C’ in vacuum. Its speed would be lower and depend upon its frequency. However: Einstein’s Theory of Relativity would be unaffected by a Photon with mass IF the speed of light is actually miss-named; the so-called speed of light, c, is not the actual speed at which light moves, but a constant of nature which is the upper bound on speed that any object could theoretically attain in 4 dimensional space-time (up/down, left/right, in/out, and time). Thus, it would still be the speed of space-time ripples like gravitational waves and gravitons: but it would not necessarily be the speed of photons. This is an important distinction for one reason: Photons can then have mass!!!…however negligible. One indirect test for the upper limit of the mass of a Photon is the galactic vector potential which can be found directly by measuring the torque exerted on a magnetized ring. This method generated an upper limit of 1.07×10−27 atomic mass units as measured by the Particle Data Group (really small mass). However, these sharp limits on the mass of a photon from the non-observation of the effects caused by the galactic vector potential have been shown to be model dependent so there are other effects causing variations which have not yet been identified. Additionally: Photons inside superconductors do develop a nonzero effective rest mass; as a result, electromagnetic forces become short-range inside superconductors. This is a definitive answer to the question of if Photons actually have, or the potential to have, mass. So the concept of a Photon has come full circle over time from Newton’s particles to Maxwell’s and Plank’s pure wave, and back to Einstein’s particles. Einstein’s work showed that, if Planck's law of black-body radiation is accepted, the energy quanta must also carry momentum p = h/λ, making them full-fledged particles. This Photon momentum was observed experimentally by Arthur Compton, for which he received the Nobel Prize in 1927. Further proof of Photons having mass is found in the inconsistencies of The Maxwell wave theory, however, because it does not account for all properties of light. The Maxwell theory predicts that the energy of a light wave depends only upon its intensity, not upon its frequency (I not F); nevertheless, several independent types of experiments show the exact opposite: that the energy imparted by light to atoms depends only upon the light's frequency, not on its intensity (F not I). For example, some chemical reactions are provoked only by light of frequency higher than a certain threshold; light of frequency lower than the threshold, no matter how intense, does not initiate the reaction. Similarly, electrons can be ejected from a metal plate by shining light of sufficiently high frequency on it (the photoelectric effect); the energy of the ejected electron is related only to the light's frequency, not to its intensity. These effects point directly to the particle nature of Photons. So which is it? Particle or Wave? The answer is both! There seems to be a definite Quantum Space relationship in Photons that allow for them to exhibit both/either propertie(s) at any given time. Now this is very consequential. At the very least it suggests that everyone who says that only photons can exhibit Quantum Entanglement because they have no mass and, therefore, mass cannot be involved in Quantum Entanglement are wrong. Now it has been mentioned that currently setting up a Quantum Entanglement can only be done by conventional communication means and only after the entanglement has been set can the unlimited distance of Quantum Entanglement be explored. For faster than light communications this is not an issue. Merely have a batch of communication pods in close proximity to set up the Quantum Entanglements and then place them where you will in space…tahdaa! Instantaneous communication across the Galaxy through Photons! However, with Photons being particles……things get very interesting. Basically: Since Photons can have mass and Photons can exhibit Quantum Entanglement over interstellar distances---Mass, through Quantum Entanglement, CAN be instantly translated across space time without limits on distance. HELLOOOO INSTANTANEOUS QUANTUM FIELD SPACE TRAVEL!

It would take a lot of time to fully change her. Right now John is only making minor changes to make her appear more attractive. This could be written off as a side effect of the intensive healing she underwent or that she recently had minor cosmetic surgery.

Cody Strong

I agree also!!

I am very curious to see how they finally manage this Secret Lioness disguise for Lenette. The hologram overlay to mask the changes in her face and body would have to be foolproof. The one Dana made for the twins to go shopping was simpler but still had to be managed carefully so as not to disturbed the holo-effects. Lenette is very familiar with many peers in the Admiralty. They have been colleagues for decades. They know her voice and how she looks. Either she claims a recent growth spurt, a full body sculpting or something else -- like a hologram light disguise! Want to see how that works...

Dave, it was written as 3 separate chapters that patrons paid for each part. Tefler then combined them as a single chapter for literoctica.

T minus 4 days and counting

Wookey

Nope, I went and rechecked my patreon receipt, patreon only charged us once for the full completed chapter

Dave2282

Tefler, thank you! You keep doing what you’re doing and we’ll keep reading (and complaining, no doubt about) it!

Evan

Indeed thank you for the update and am looking forward to reading it as much as the others. Mean time will pop over to |mazon and buy the third e-book.

Nibbles

Thank you. Great stuff.

Hey, let’s not forget that the whole idea behind being a “patron,” is to take the financial pressure OFF “our” creative genious, so that they can create what they do, when they do. Tefler, do your thing don’t let us screw with your masterwork!

Jim Liebenstein

Its great seeing all the comments and how it should be done. I agree that Tefler's a machine when it comes to putting out all this work in such a short time, but I'm going to stick with the adage that "if it works don't fix it". Keep up the good work; it's one of the best sci-fi novels I've read in a good many years.

Dave Tamares-Little

Thanks for sharing now counting down to the tenth. If there was an award for the cruellest cliffhanger - it would be a no-brainer for you 😎

Thank you! I would love to see some more ebooks. I've really enjoyed rereading from the beginning as ebooks. It seems all the rough edges from the original on lit. are gone and it seems you added some bits here and there although it's been a while so might just have forgotten those details. Plus the reading experience on Kindle is so much better!

Thanks for the much welcomed update. I would be amiss if I didn't try to contribute to the suggestions to artists. I found this gentlemen by way of Reddit's ImaginaryStarships, Paul Chadeisson. HIs main display image on his web page, http://paulchadeisson.com/ makes me think of Invictus departing Olympus after a repair or refit. Perhaps you'll get some inspiration.

I'm with Dave, shorter and more often chapters would make it more enjoyable of a read for me. It would make the story flow better as I wouldn't have to remind myself where it was left weeks before.

Dave in Teflers defense he did charge us for each part of Chapter 100 and not for the full combined chapter.

Anthony Kester

Tefler, Thanks for the update. You are a writing machine to crank out 2-3000 words, day in day out. Hats off to you for the pace. However as someone who’s made their living as a writer for 30 years I feel obligated to point out you are shooting yourself in the foot financially by not releasing each part as an individual chapter. Most patrons pay you $1-$2/chapter so you have little financial incentive to be writing 30,000 word chapters instead of more frequent 15,000 word ones. Writing chapter 100 as a 100,000 word single chapter instead of three individual 30,000 word chapters was nuts, considering that’s the length of many full novels. (Writers who fail to realize the financial value of their work is one of my pet peeves.)

Dave2282

And the added bits in all three have been nothing short of inspired and awesome!

Thanks for the update....................cliffhanger😨😨😨😨

Tefler you have been a MACHINE for well over a year and a half. Some here remind me of the old sayings, "Give them an inch and they will take a mile" and "It is not what you have done that counts, it is what have you done for me lately." I think you have created an expectation that is unreasonable and we as your readers need to put things back into perspective....Just my humble opinion. But thanks greatly for your dedication and kind update.

Nice, thought you would be keeping a schedule of roughly 10 days per chapter. Cliffhangers, Tefler y u do dis?

Thanks for the update!!!

Thanks for the update looking forward to seeing the chapter
