Patience folks: when Tefler wrote (8 hours ago) that he had only to edit part one and he would post later in the evening, it was about dinner (or coming home from school) time in the UK. He likely has no chance to edit part one (and indeed has better things to do) until junior has gone to bed - hence most releases come in the early hours UK time. It is only 11:30pm there right now, so we probably have another hour or two to wait.

Hey everyone! I've actually just finished chapter 105... it's just under 32k words and I've passed part 2 over to my editors. I'm going to go through their edits on Part 1, then I'll post the completed chapter later this evening.

Everyone talks about John keeping vats of his spunk around for the girls. Remember John is different. It doesn't feel right to him to have a callous dispensation of his seed. Especially with the girls he keeps close. And that emotional connection is very important. It's what's allowed him to effectively create a close knit harm of near progenitor level powered crew. If he started being milked without that connection I don't think it would be nearly as powerful. We all know he is the focus point. And someone mentioned one of the girls getting killed. I think of the fight does go poorly John would sacrifice himself and the girls would then destroy that progenitor. Remember John has specifically made the girls strong enough to take him out if it comes to it.

Since John is now getting instantly replenished through his psychic connection he should be able to constantly keep all the girls topped up. Perhaps other progenitors, considering their complete lack of connection to their thralks, use a modified milking machine to, as Alanthia put it, keep the vats full.

I expect that now that there are a surplus of Lionesses we'll start to see a few killed off. My guess is the two Maliri assassins off accompanying the Maliri fleet saving the Trankarans will be the first to become Tefler's equivalent of the expendable red-shirted crewmen in the original Star Trek.

A reasonable idea, as the best part of having the newly constructed ship is that it would be built entirely - internal framing, superstructure, hull, and armor - from Crystal Alyssium, rather than the current Invictus' mix of Crystal Alyssium and titanium. However, until Dana unlocks the wormhole drive, it would still take days for the replacement ship to get from Genthalas to wherever it's needed.

Why doesn't John create a second Invictus and have it at Genthalas or Ashana? This way if Invictus I is badly damaged, the second ship could be "called" remotely into service as needed?

I think they should save the hydroponics and aquariums for the stations, not the Invictus. As much as the Invictus is home to the team, it is still a warship.

While there would certainly be a market for the improved heavy canon, despite their suckiness, the big problem with them, along with any other weapon sales, is their use of Crystal Alyssium. Until or unless an alternative method of manufacture, or an alternative material, can be conjured up I don't see Alyssa being too enthusiastic about doing all the shaping!

John and his team need a base of operation of their own.A trading post were any thing legal establishes by the charter of the trading post can be traded by any species with no possibility of hostility. The place can also accommodate tech development centre and repair centre for Invictus or any of its sister ships or mechs. A floating dock can be made at this post which automatically travel to any trouble location to assist in repair of Invictus or supporting ships. How's that?

Since Faye keeps insisting that she can help protect the Girls when they leave the ship, I would like to see her explicitly make her case to John. I would really like to see her design her own equipment for that, with Dana's assistance, and watch as the Boys construct her armor and weapons, and practice with her in the primary hangar as well as outside the ship in space. A Battle-Body, ChrisW? Intriguing! What features do you suggest it have?

Both of the Twins had some self-defense and weapons training from Edraele's assassins when they were younger, though their hand-to-hand combat skills may not be as good as Calara and Sakura. However, the Twins are extremely capable with using long guns and pistols. With these combat skills, do you guys think that Luna should include them in training with the sword, along with John, Calara and Sakura? Melee weapons have proven extremely useful in combat so far; and would allow them to stretch and use their psychic pyrokinetic and electrokinetic powers in new ways...

By the time the Invictus confronts the Brimorians, Helene should be combat ready.

Edraele is planning for a holiday for the crew of the Invictus to help them relax and decompress. She will have her choice of planets and settings for this, but it is likely that Valaden will host them. The Crew has had an oceanic setting for vacation, and a truncated day for snow play. What will Edraele offer? A few days at the House Valaden Palace with city tours and cultural entertainments? A fast, luxurious airship to circumnavigate the planet? A lake side fishing retreat at an isolated mountain lodge? An outback excursion to ride their equivalent of horses? Or a sailing weekend for fishing and swimming upon her royal yacht? Will the Young Matriarchs and Edraele's Inner Circle join them?

The officer's lounge has potted plants that Alyssa used to soften the former military decor. The Lagoon has tropical trees, bushes and flowers to simulate a beach environment. The holo-suites can simulate the images of any planetary environment, such as the sunny field that Irillith programmed to brief John on Tartarus and the Battle of Golon Prime. As they consider what to do regarding redesigning their guest quarters that were destroyed by plasma fire, I think they should consider adding a hydroponics bay to grow flowers, shrubs and vegetables to add ambiance and living things -- maybe even a large aquarium of fish and other aquatic species -- to add to the quality of life aboard.

Dana wants to replace the six heavy cannon on the top deck with four Quantum Flux Cannon, bypassing Quantum Cannon for the Invictus. She and John think that a broadside from these modified Progenitor weapons might be able to cause serious damage to the onyx armor of LK's Flagship and his Thrall Ships. Dana will likely be able to design and install her CA variant of these guns by the time their visit to Genthalas is complete. So far, John has been reluctant to share Dana's major weapons designs with Terra and other allies. Regarding his suggestion that those allies that depend on energy weapons should add kinetic ordnance for their warships, do you think that any of Dana's weapons designs might be adopted by other allied ships?

I realize that I've likely already asked the question but forgot. Still in awe of the literary engine Tefler possesses.

I think that Lynette should give Caldwell an important job -- like reestablishing TF presence in the Dragon March -- as a strategy to keep him busy and bind him to the new regime. He should not be overlooked and let his resentments overwhelm him.

The TFHC is still a centralized military oligarchy with no civilian or judicial oversight. A "strong executive" system has advantages during times of crisis when rapid, coordinated mobilization of resources is imperative. However, in the absence of crisis, with the wrong leader, such a system can become self-aggrandizing and predatory. That is what happened under Buckingham and his successors. Deveroux claims she will depart from recent patterns of predatory leadership by recent Fleet Admirals and promises to usher in a new era of leadership more concerned with the interests of the citizenry. So far, her vision is clear, but the stresses that led members of the TFHC to become traitors and agitate for a New Republic have not abated. Time will tell, of course. I wonder if over time Lynette will reconsider the structure of the government and advocate for more distributed decision making among the various star sectors and planets of the Federation?

Question for Tefler: As the story progresses, do you find it harder to come up with plot points and character interaction than the earlier days of TSM? Or have you plotted down all your major points already and weaving it all together into a cohesive story is the hard part?

It seems that if they're in the barrier that John puts up before going to sleep, they get pulled in. There were a number of times when John just put the barrier around himself, going stealth mode on the Astral Plane, and none of the girls got pulled in with him. However, when John did the dome that covered the bed, all the girls present were dragged in. With that in mind, it might be best if Jehanna, Helen, and the four new Nymphs slept elsewhere tonight.

I still wonder if Calara and Sakura will be dragged into the next nightmare with the abysmal monsters tonight? Is distance from John really a factor that shields or protects them, as he seems to believe? If so, will they be short handed in the upcoming confrontation without the two of them?

Waiting for book 4 on Amazon. I honestly hate reading on a website or whatnot since I sometimes just have to put it down and do something else and it's a pain to find where you left off. So having a book on Kindle is preferable to me

Thanks for the update! Wondering when you might have part IV on Amazon? About two weeks or so ago, I started re-reading the series from the beginning and used the 3 books from Amazon as the starter for that project. I liked the extras in them but ran out of that the other day and had to revert to the .mobi file from S.O.L. to keep going. Have deliberately not been reading the recent posts here since I left off at chapter 98 the last time through because I don't want to spoil any of the suspense from 99 on.
