Chapter 84 status update

*** Last updated: 9th July (01:22) ***

Hey everyone!

I've written about 28k words of chapter 84 so far and I've handed over part 1 to my editors.

I'll add new updates to this post as I progress through the chapter!

Being a Math Geek can be such a good and bad thing at the same time. The algorithm is on track for the 3rd chapter in a row!!!!! - *Special acknowledgement to Tefler for providing the statistical data points along the way.*

Master Laurent

Yeah!!!!!!!

Master Laurent

I'll be done in a minute, just finishing up a little bit of editing first.

Tefler

Okay, so Patreon is saying you posted this note 3 hours ago. I'm hoping you've had enough of a chance to get dinner and have a bit of a think, because Crazy just woke me up several hours early from my normal cycle and got me thinking there was a new chapter ready to read. I would have been monumentally impressed if I had logged on and found you had just posted the chapter, but alas, I now find it to be a confirmation of just how annoying Crazy is. I mean seriously, you don't wake a man from a sound sleep unless you've got a damn good reason, like the building's on fire or a new chapter of 3SM has been posted. And I'm pretty sure the building's not on fire even though it feels like the world is with the outside temps being 110+F.

So in order to train their reflexes, I propose that the girls train using "The ground is lava" on the Invictus in the coming weeks. Where Faye will tell one of the girls this during their day to day activity and they have to communicate with everyone else and get to safety in 5 seconds.

DemonHunterCole

Tefler time 22:17 - hopefully we will get a gift tonight.

Master Laurent

So I just reread Chapter 83 with the final changes. I have to say I like all the extra touches, such as Rachel getting a promotion, not leaving the new girl behind, etc. But my main thought was that the girls really need to work on their reaction times. Calara and Dana failed to contact anyone. Sakura failed to contact Alyssa, and Jade only contacted Alyssa and not Edreale. This might have gone much differently if any or all of them contacted the two matriarchs the second they sensed danger.

Speaking for all of us junkies, Can I humbly beg that you release what you have when you have finished dinner and we can get the final scene when you have completed it a little later after we have finished what you have released. *Pleading eyes* Noting that the T-Release algorithm is still within the statistical mean.

Master Laurent

I've just about finished, and handed over part 2 to my editors. I'm thinking about adding in a final scene, so I'll have a think about that while I get some dinner. :-)

Tefler

Ominous Silence Fills the Board today, noting it is 19:40 Tefler Time - not that I have a Tefler Time Clock set as one of the notification center widgets on my Mac - No, Not Me! -

Master Laurent

I'm hoping more for T minus 2 hours. That's when I get off work, and boy do I need a new chapter. Been on the phone the whole shift and it's my Friday.

Jedi Khan

Question is whether we are at T minus 12 hours or T minus 1 day 12 hours

Wookey

Something for Tefler to include

Wookey

LOL, Someone has made the same request of Tefler on every chapter status update Tefler has posted when he states that he is done with Part one. I am thinking that if he works @ his 6K Per day pace he should be done by Tomorrow Evening Late so I am betting on a Late Tomorrow or Late Monday Release. (Hoping)

Master Laurent

Tefler, how about releasing part 1 to us now and add part 2 when finished? Just a thought, as it looks like I can't find anything new to read that I like, looking like a boring weekend :(.

Oh man getting the chapter this weekend.. My employer might write you a check for my surprise productivity. ;)

Grimlakin

I've just about finished editing part 1, which was 21.5k words. I've written about 1k of part 2 and I'm just wrapping up the tail end of the chapter. :-) I'll just leave this link... for no particular reason: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFEAzP1Zm-A

Tefler

It's gotten a bit quiet around here, so much so that Crazy has started working on making his own soundtrack, and trust me, it's not pleasant. Where's the next chapter?

Jedi Khan

Wishful Smile *Looking @ Tefler* - Late Sunday Night? - Need to ruin the weekend for the Junkies in Classic Tefler Style! *Said with deepest respect!"

Master Laurent

Make him immortal - not ageless - and give him an incurable and painfully degenerative, debilitating disease that causes all artificial parts to be rejected and ineffective.

Hey Tefler, I wanted to share a thought on the Faye situation. Faye ran a risk analysis with over a trillion different situations. That seems quite rigorous, but i think you have to look at what it was she was anlysing. The answer being: "How bad is it to stay on the invictus?". A followup question should be: "how much worse is not staying on the invictus?". This is something that John could use in an argument with Faye i think.

I believe that only applies when the person in question is actually wearing the medal, or its representative ribbon (I think that's a thing, right? Rather than wear the medal all the time, wear a small ribbon instead). I'm reminded of an episode of NCIS, where the team is helping out a WW2 vet who insists that he killed a buddy of his on Iwo Jima and wants to be held accountable for it. The old man also happens to be a Medal of Honor recipient. When the JAG officer comes around to take the gentleman into custody with a pair of guards, they don't snap to until one of the NCIS agents nudges the old man's tie aside to reveal the medal he's wearing. Granted, this is a TV drama we're talking about, but I'd like to think they got that much right about the military.

Jedi Khan

With regards to Jack rushing off to his ship instead of hanging around to chat with John, it's likely his orders come from a higher rank, i.e. a full Admiral or even the Fleet Admiral. John's only a Vice Admiral, and although he's the Lion, that still doesn't outrank an Admiral, and therefore can't countermand the orders to ship out, especially ones that have already been delayed once to allow a father a chance to see his daughter's award ceremony. Now that I think about it some, a Vice Admiral could get away with further delaying orders to ship out like you suggest, with the captain saying "Yes sir" and letting the Vice Admiral take the heat later if asked why they were late. However, this is John we're talking about. No Admiral is about to take out their frustrations for something like that on him, not when there's a perfectly culpable Captain at hand who could have -should have- told, but didn't tell, the Vice Admiral that he had priority orders from a higher level. Jack probably knew that and didn't want to be "that guy". And of course, there is always the "literary license" card that Tefler could play, so meh. I haven't seen military service myself, and hopefully never will considering the horror stories I heard from my dad, but I still enjoy a good military story now and again (as well as saluting and thanking those who have served), and it helps if there is a certain level of "authenticity" to the story regarding the military mindset and whatnot, but at some point, the minutiae of military decorum, rules and regs, etc. (of which I'm sure there are many) will start to drag the story down. The author has to take some liberty with such stuff, or else the story will start to read like one of the military's handbooks. I don't know about you, but that sounds more like something on the "required" reading list rather than the "leisurely" reading one.

Jedi Khan

One other item is the highest award medal. The Solar Cluster would be like the Congressional Medal of Honor which requires the all ranks to salute the recipient regardless the rank. In other words the Fleet Admiral to salute the lower ranked people everytime.

Can I drag you back to Chapter 83 a moment? There is a moment during the reception after the awards ceremony where I believe that there was a protocol violation that I think you may have overlooked. it may seem small and trite, but in the minds of servicemen, it is not insignificant. When John was finally able to break free of all of his new peer Admiralty, he returned to Clara and her father. At his approach, her father, at least, along with other ship Captains and below in the group he was approaching would likely have snapped to and given their now 3-steps superior officer a First Salute at and for his new rank. The salute given him during the ceremony was for the award. Even superior officer Admirals gave that salute. This salute, is one that is both more personal and formal and signals directly their respect for the new Vice Admiral's changed rank. Calara's father would NOT have missed his chance to be one of the first ship Captains to give John the respect his new rank entitles him to. Calara too, would have jumped to and saluted John for the same reasons. In the military decorum matters, both to those respecting the rank and to those shouldering its burdens (and enjoying its privileges). There's even some elements of "inside baseball"-level politics and personal views/feelings intermixed in the matter. I'm just saying that this was missed - and in a RL situation with military folk, it wouldn't have been. Actually, the same basic thinking applies to the end of his conversation with Jack as mere ship captains don't just excuse themselves from the presence of a Vice Admiral with a rushed "Congratulations on your promotion, John! I’m sorry I haven’t been able to talk to you properly this evening, but we’ll catch up when I get more time.” ...after all, said Vice Admiral has both the authority and wherewithall to say "stand to, Captain. You and your ship leave when I say it leaves and not a moment sooner." ...and all a mere ship's Captain can say in reply is "Yes sir!" So the tone of that whole interchange was wrong. Captains get to tell their lieutenants and commanders things like that; They don't get to _tell_ Vice Admirals things like that. Now, we all know how relaxed and decent a guy John is, but military decorum, even in a relaxed reception, is still military decorum.

I'm finished for tonight. I wrote 7k today, which I'm really pleased with. Hopefully the editors will enjoy part 1! :-)

Tefler

Are you done yet????(think most annoying voice.)

Thanks Wookey! 2k a chapter would be bonkers. :-)

Tefler

I've written 6k today, so it's been a constructive one despite how muggy it is here! Hpoefully you won't have to wait long to find out what happens! :-)

Tefler

It's up right now. The last editor is away at the moment, so I think it'll probably be a week before he gets back to me. I decided to just submit it to literotica as it is. :-)

Tefler

When's the final version of ch83 going up?! I can't hold out much longer...

Yeah, at this rate, I'll have to resist the urge to read two rough chapters at the same time!

any update on the editing of 83?

Stijn Van Hove

Yea!!!! - speculating on a Monday or Tuesday release - Sunday Late night would be if you got manic because you were excited about the scenes!!!!!

Master Laurent

Poor poor Mikaboshi, not ;-)

clauskj3r

Woot I love these posts. Means we are close!!

Grimlakin

So now the question is, will this chapter resolve the rescue, or will the baddies drag out their merciless deaths?
