Naming the Mech!

Hey guys,

I thought you might be interested in helping to name the new Gundam/Mech. :-)

As a big fan of Japanese style mecha, Dana is eager to name it appropriately!

Which of the following do you prefer for her Ultimate-Weapon-Suit (UWS-v01)?

Alternatively, if you have a better suggestion I'd love to hear it!

Only one response allowed! (I'm playing with the new polling functionality.)

I think one thing has become obvious , Dana ,as brilliant as she is as an armorer , doesn't have the personality for combat . Her mind just can't concentrate on the battle on hand , even though I though it was cool she was thinking what she could do to make Mech better it almost cost her . She's been in physical combat three times & almost died each time . Might be better to have her on the sidelines helping out & thinking ahead & leave the Melee combat to the rest of the team .Also about the Mech cover it with Shinatobe's black stealth tech & call it "Blacklion of Blake" BoB :-)

bigdawguw65

The rebuild could be BoB , "BEAST OF BLAKE"

Love that Dana is mapping out the up grades to the Valkrie while in battle & cursing herself for things she forgot or over looked . Mech 2 will be even more awesome . (or should I say Bob :-)

bigdawguw65

Maybe Mech 2 can be Bob ..... or 42. LOL

Wookey

Tefler has spoken. Its Valkyrie

Wookey

Fred. It's name is Fred.

Matt Miller

I know its late in the 9th innings, maybe even extra innings but..... How about the mech being named 42? After all 1. Alyssa was a Hitchhiker seeking a Guide to the Galaxy 2. Naming the mech is the Ultimate Question 3. Building the mech requires much "Deep Thought" 4. Tefler is English, so its an ode to Lewis Carroll, Douglas Adams, THe Kumars at 42 etc 5. It has no relevance to any other naming scenario in Maliri or TF military practices

Wookey

Surprised i did see Invictus Prime as a suggestion haha

Thinking about all this deep research for naming of the Mech but what about the Raptor, is not named after all , it's just the class of the ship . It would be like calling the Invictus a Cruiser . It works because it seems to fit it as a bird of prey but maybe they should find a name for it too , just to make more work for Tefler & they rest of us . Or maybe we're over thinking the original idea & just call it" the Mech" .Can you tell the frustration of waiting is getting to me :-)

bigdawguw65

I am for Predator, or even Mike

Hmmm, as casual as the girls are, except possibly Calara, I can mostly see them using the term 'mech', no matter what. In Dana's case, it'd be more like, "Let me get my fucking suit, I'll fuck him up really good!!"

I admit to not truly being satisfied with any of the suggested names, my own included, but I think perhaps "Valkyrie Ultima" isn't too terrible...

7OO Tnega Terces

If you're going to go that route, my vote is for Elsa. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elsa_the_lioness" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elsa_the_lioness</a>

Come on I think we are missing the name... Simba... That would be perfect

Are you kidding? If Jade is in the Mech, and it gets damaged, she can emerge from the Mech and - if John's been feeding her enough - grow to far more than it in size and strength! Beware the Snark, for it is a Boojum, you see. :-) Ever see creatures that can live in Space (or outside of it) and travel without the need for ships? Jade may have... and may be such... think Astral Behemoth... albeit Jade-colored... and leave the nice robot-like machine alone as it rips your weaker ships apart... for you do not want to face what would emerge from within!

Evan

If you want whimsical or naughty , &amp; since it looks like the girls will be piloting it "the Big Pussy ....cat" . I'm sure it would let Dana's &amp; Alyssa's get pretty entertaining with quips .

bigdawguw65

DUDE!!! Jade can't handle hand weapons, but she has no trouble with vehicle mounted ones...so does that mean that she could 'suit up' in the Mech and pilot it?!? ;P I think it would be funny if the only 'powered armor' Jade is capable of using is a several ton mech (how tall is it?!?)! Were she I guy, I might wonder about size issues and compensation, but we all know shape-shifting Jade's got the least to be ashamed of of all of Johns girls!

7OO Tnega Terces

Yes but you have to remember that Faye has the ability to channel multiple avatars, and Dana has already started work on building her a body... It makes more sense for Faye to get multiple smaller mechs modeled from Jades tiger form, which as her power has grown should have gotten bigger. So it makes sense that Faye s "cubs" backup Jade in a fight, besides white tigers with purple stripes flanking Jades flowing green form.

Nicknames are usually more whimsical than ferocious, so I vote for "The Big Kitty!"

7OO Tnega Terces

It's Dana - the name has to be smutty somehow!

Atlas, as in the Atlas subspecies of lion, also known as the Barbary lion and widely believed to be the largest lions in known taxonomy

Dragonkain

and the second be named Arturo, and the third one Black.... RAB for those who follow Harry Potter. A bit of cross-fictional intervention .

Wookey

Regulus, they are in space, so naming it after a star in the Leo constellation seems appropriate.

1. Simple 2. Breasts on Board 3. Not sexual 4. Blackadder 5. Better than Boaty MvBoatface 6. Completely random

Thomas Dye, I like your ideas. I also like the use of latin. How about a slight modification to Lion Knight "Panthera Eques". Instead of riding a horse into battle like the ancient times the horse in this case is the mech. Just a much deadlier metal horse. They can even use the idea of riding in on a white horse to save the day. I hope it shows a purple lion on the shoulder when faye eventually pilots it!

Roy Meyer

"Panthera Rex" which taking a few minor leaps in translation would come across As Lion King. Panthera being the Latin name for the genus of wild Large cats and Rex meaning the reigning king, since most likely the armor mech will be upgraded in the future it would stand as the reigning king till v2.0 comes along. Would also leave openings for specialized mechs in the future since this is the lion mech could have a stealth/sniper mech or "Panther", and a close combat mech for dealing with the Dragons or "Tiger" leaving it a model name like this with specific nicknames for individual mechs leaves you open to using the Invictus to do orbital insertions with the mechs on rescue missions while providing cover with the raptor... Just a thought.

How about the "Orbital Striker". I like the Lion's Claw, but seems a little goofy (sorry) for a weapon of this ferocity.

Nigel Waters "Lions Claw" is an excellent suggestion

Lions Claw

HOW ABOUT THE CUB?

TravelinTheRiver

I like panthera

That is fabulous idea!

DCM

I think Faye would be thrilled with her own APAS (Automated Paragon Avatar Suit) to send out on missions with the crew to help look at hi... errr... after hi... err, them, yes, after them.

Evan

Since a pride is a group of lions maybe it should be a Claw or Fang in case Dana make more mecks for the other ladies.

Dwight Brown

If one of the girls (including Faye) flies the mech I hope it has the shape of a woman. I also would suggest that it includes the girls lion emblem on the shoulder like it does on their paragon armour. I think faye would really like to fly it and have a purple lion on the shoulder, just saying.

Roy Meyer

Lions Pride

Big stick? As in: 'Talk softly and carry a big stick'? I don't think John qualifies for talk softly. His kind of diplomacy is wont to be at the end of gun barrel.

as i think it was mentioned somewhere in the chapter that it looked like a large set of the paragon armor that john and the girls wear, i think it should be named in kind with the paragon which one of the synonyms for paragon is.......Exemplar

Gregory V

Playing on 'fight' I think the mech is a FYT suit ... pronounced fight, but stands for "Fuck You Too". Could also be referred to as 'the big stick' as in "I said, I've got a big stick" a Culture ship name. Yes I'm a Banks Culture fan 😺 And I think Valkyrie is a good name for her.

Can we have a Bob vs Valkyrie poll to decide it please ?

Wookey

As to naming the Mech. MODJAJI is the African Rain Queen. Raining Hel on their enemies.

Hm...the crew honestly has enough time to discuss the name of the mech before the battle? Seems to me that they were cutting it pretty close, likely dropping out of warp right around the same time the Drakkar arrive. Or are they discussing the name after the battle? Have you already finished the battle scene? In which case, damn, that must've been one short battle to be done in around 7k words. Or perhaps the battle is so not an issue for the crew that they're able to hold the discussion while kicking the Drakkar's teeth in?

Jedi Khan

I've really enjoyed reading the feedback everyone, thanks for taking the time to respond! Some of the ideas have been really creative, especially the acronyms! :-) I started writing the mech naming discussion dialogue last night, so thank you everyone who responded!

Tefler

I like Valkyrie, but it is too cliche, I feel like every military sci-fi story has some tech named Valkyrie. From Greek mythology I like Daedalus and Prometheus(I can not recall the stories but I'm a Stargate fan) If were going with a lion-themed name i like Panthera - It is the genus of the lion - It is from the greek 'pan' meaning 'all', and 'thera' meaning 'prey', literally "Everything is (my) prey" - Can be shortened to Pan, Panther and Thera(ref. to Wheel of Time)

Malthe Mørk Mejlby

When I start writing full time, I'm aiming to ramp up to 4 chapters a month, so pretty much one a week. :-)

Tefler

In staying with Greek mythology. How about Titan.

Chefy

Very helpful, thanks! :)

Tefler

Collected votes: EDIT: too big to post directly <a href="https://pastebin.com/fCNM71tg" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://pastebin.com/fCNM71tg</a> WINNER: Valkyrie (w/o Ultra) with 24 votes and another 4 votes for personalized Valkyries for the crew (ie. Fierce Valkyrie) RUNNER UP: Bob with 6 votes

Malthe Mørk Mejlby

Would kinda pair up with Dana's desire to shoot fireballs from her eye's lol

GoLion

So, Tefler, has this poll made the decision on the mech's name any easier for you? I can't believe you just said that with a straight face, Crazy. Well, it was an honest question. Sure, but this poll has been anything but definitive in choosing a name. The only consensus seems to be to drop "Ultra" from "Valkyrie Ultra." Aside from that, the next most popular choice seems to be "Bob" for some oddball reason. Oh come on, "Bob" is a hilarious name for the mech! But it's so unimaginative. I know! That's what makes it funny! We're not pirates, Crazy. We have better imaginations than that. You sure about that Jedi? I mean, you have seen some of the things posted here, right? Yes, well, anyways what we need is someone who has a thing for making lists to go through all the replies here and put all the suggestions that have been made in one place. That should help Tefler out a bit if he decides to make a tie-breaker poll.

Jedi Khan

owe and about the pole i think all of them are good or even David Robisons THE GHOST sounds fitting

HI TEFLER just have a quick question i have been immensely enjoying the series and to be honest have been hooked, when you said after you reached you pledge goal you will right full time just wondering does the mean we can expect more then 3 chapters a months?

With all the white armor, how about the name "The Ghost"?

im all for Themis

Tefler, How is chapter 78 coming along?

Wookey

"Valkyrie ultra is cheese." !!??? LOL! "Attention Shoppers, we have a limited time special on the premium Valkyrie Ultra cheese - get yours in our dairy section now!" heheh

Since collectively they are the pride. Why not have this mech be the MANE. Mobile Attack Nominal Energy attack unit? Damn I tried to make that work better.

Grimlakin

Stay with the lion theme. Also start using the stealth tec. on all equip.

How does Tin-man sounds

Adding them again

I hhave added comments which are not in the comment history.

I vote for just Valkyrie as well

keen_FlattendHedgeHog

Just Valkyrie. Ultra makes it too long and kinda unwieldy.

keen_FlattendHedgeHog

I second that notion

Could be a Acronym for Combat Light Armored Weapon

Lions claw? Or maybe Susan

I think we need a new poll with all alternatives :-)

Magnus Wittstrom

Lions Fist

With all the new white armor the shock value of a bi-ped mech armored to the teeth, how about a simple name like "Ghost"?

Pride's Predator - it has only one purpose.

Sick acronym! Is that from something or entirely your creative genius? And if it is yours, would you be opposed to me borrowing it for a sci-fi story I'm writing?

Valkyrie ultra is cheese. Maybe just Valkyrie? also a lot of the names for Mecha are apparently two concepts smashed together across sometimes multiple language barriers. then there is the fact that the 'cockpit' is 'hanging out' instead of between the shoulders in a more tactical position and the human form in general is just junk when it comes to practicality so maybe make it's next iteration more effective (tail=balance, four toes on the front of foot equally spread? one on either side of back of foot &lt; back being elongated flexible ball of foot&gt; back of foot raised to mid calf and converted to part of leg=balance, control, better grip, jumping, faster acceleration/deceleration, stopping. -shrug- for starters. )

keen_FlattendHedgeHog

Tigress, Lioness, Jaquar, Panther, Cheetah! I mean, why not keep in line with the "Lion" theme? Just sayin'

Akamai Kekoa

Just as an aside ..John called Aylssa a Valkyrie after the battle with the Kinrrix in Ch 15 . Would be a nice homage to his Matriarch to name it after her

bigdawguw65

I still favor ATROPOS: Armored Tactical Response Operations Power Operated Suit.

Nekronom

It has to be a lion/lioness based name, there are lots of names for Lion/ lioness is other languages. Lona - means lioness ready for battle in English. Leonora in Latin, Leola is Italian. There are tons of cool names.

MJHSharkbait365

I like Geovanna

does this mean Bob is ok?

Wookey

You are correct the gunship still doesn't have a name of its own, Raptor is the name of that model of gunship.

Patrick Briley

+1

I veto common and usual names like - Avenger, Valkyrie, Voltron, Leo, Angel and the lot.

The "Griffin" Griffin has the body, tail, and back legs of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. They are known for guarding treasure and priceless possessions, in this case to protect the girls as they're precious to John.

I don't know if anyone has suggested it but how about Appoloin The Angel of Destruction.

Anthony Kester

Hitomaru (Japanese type 10 tank name)

I think this fits perfectly.

Manticore!

Sparks chose Dana as her new name citing her Celtic ancestry, so maybe the mech could be named after a Celtic goddess? Two possibilities are Maeve, a warrior queen, or Morrigan, a terrifying crow goddess associated with war and death; however, one of Morrigan's aspects (Badb) is described as a shape-shifting, warrior goddess who symbolizes life and death, wisdom and inspiration.

DaESis Karura: Dana's Enormous Shit Storm Gold-Winged bird that breathes fire and is the Guardian of the Invictus. Karura is a divine creature with human torso and birdlike head in Japanese Hindu-Buddhist mythology. The name is a transliteration of Garuda a race of enoromously gigantic birds in Hinduism, upon which the Japanese Buddhist version is based. The same creature may go by the name of konjichō, lit. "gold-winged bird" The karura is said to be enormous, fire-breathing, and to feed on dragons/serpents, just as Garuda is the bane of Nāgas. Only a dragon who possesses a Buddhist talisman, or one who has converted to the Buddhist teaching, can escape unharmed from the Karura. Shumisen or Mount Meru is said to be its habitat. Karura is one of the proselytized and converted creatures recruited to form a guardian unit called the Hachibushū "Devas of the Eight Classes. A mythical bird-man creature of Hindu lore who was later adopted into the Buddhist pantheon as a protector deity. The gold-colored Garuda (Skt.) has a human body but the wings, face, and beak of an eagle-like bird. In early Hindu literature, Garuda is granted immortality by Lord Vishnu and serves as Vishnu’s mount (avatar). In Tibetan tradition, Garuda is a mythical bird, similar to an eagle, but of gigantic proportions, able to block the sunlight with its size. In Japan, Garuda is an enormous fire-breathing eagle-man with golden feathers and magic gems crowning its head. Garuda’s various attributes are: Personifies the blazing rays of sun, the wind, and the esoteric teachings of the Vedas (Indian texts of sacred knowledge). Fierce bird of prey, variously described as an eagle, hawk, or kite. Can spew fire from mouth; flapping of wings sounds like clap of thunder. Mortal Enemy of the naga, a Hindu group including serpents &amp; dragons. Karura feeds on the naga. Only naga who possess a Buddhist talisman, or naga who have converted to Buddhism, can escape from the naga-eating Karura. Karura’s hatred of the naga stems from an ancient feud between Karura’s mother (Skt. Vinata) and her sister (the mother of the naga). First to teach mankind how to cure snake poison. In Vedic and Hindu mythology, Karura steals the nectar of immortality from Indra in order to gain the release of his enslaved mother. The pot of nectar is eventually returned to Indra, on condition that Indra grant Karura permission to feed on naga. In the Purana (religious texts of ancient Hindu myths), Karura accidentally drops the bile of a slain Ashura; the bile falls to earth where it solidifies into veins of emerald. This story sparked the belief that touching emeralds neutralizes any poison. In Southeast Asia the walls of temples are often decorated with Karura, as at Angkor and Java Carries the sacred Nyoi Hōju jewel on its neck. This pearl is said to grant every wish and remove every suffering. According to legend, this jewel emerged from the head of the dragon king. Garuda is sometimes translated into English as griffin. In Japanese art, Karura is depicted as an ornate bird with human head; sometimes shown treading on serpents or holding serpents. Karura does not appear often in Japanese Buddhist sculpture, and is rarely the object of central devotion. In Japanese art, Karura is one of the 33 Manifestations of Kannon Bodhisattva. Like the Phoenix, Garuḍa is associated with fire and serves as a symbol of flame (said to represent the purification of the mind by the burning away of all material desires). In Japan, the term Karura-en refers to the flames spewed from Karura’s mouth, while the term Karura Enkō refers to the feiry halo (kaen kōhai) often attached to statues of Fudō Myō-ō. Some say Fudō’s customary flame halo originated from the vomit of Karura, while others say the halo resembles Karura’s outstretched wings. Karura’s head is sometimes depicted on Fudō’s halo as well. There is a great deal of confusion about Karura and the mythical Phoenix. Many web sites refer to the Karura as Phoenix, and vice versa, but this is wrong. The two are different mythical creatures.

PLRus--Founding member of the TSM F5 club.

but only if it remains a singlular thing. If there are multiple ones...not so much.

The Tuxedo - John gets a tag line: "You really don't want me to get all formal on you now, do you? ...and wear my Tuxedo?"

GrandPaM

Wrecker :)

Little Cub, with the raptor as the CUB and the invictus renamed as the Lion

Just Valkyrie. I also like an earlier post's suggestion to have each girl's call sign (Radiant, Veridian, Fury, etc)

CJ Mora

I agree that Dana's suggestion would probably be cheeky. I originally expected the side project to be a body for Faye. I could still see this being controlled by her, so I thought something like the Pixie as a nickname. The Valkyrie (no other modifiers) is more in line with the other names, though. You haven't specified how it looks or how it'll be used, so other random names: the gladius, the vanguard, the aegis, the cataphract.

qOp

never mind the name, though I DO prefer Bob. Where's the PDF for the rest of 77? I'm dying here

Pride of the Lion

THUMPER

Imagine John saying "how's Bob" to the crew. Dana responds "Fuck Bob, it's Rachel I am worried about". To be followed with lots of jokes about "Bob being on the job", "who has Bob tonight", "Bob is soooo big", "shame we can't share Bob", "Bob may be bigger but John has better staying power" etc

Wookey

all hail bob

bob...definitely. Breasts On Board.

Bob. Taken from Blackadder where our protagonist named his female servant, Bob. It's short. Completely unrelated to anything in story. And fun.

VycronDyz

Geovanna: Grand Engineering Overlord's Very Armored No-Nonsense Annihilator It's also means "as a name for girls has the meaning "God is gracious". Geovanna is an alternate form of Giovanna (Italian, Hebrew): feminine of John." :-)

Magnus Wittstrom

I think I am leaning towards Celtic references because I think of Dana and Celtic heritage together.

DCM

Possibly the Gryphon? Both spellings are widely used, it seems more fitting.

Jeremiah Paltridge

The Violator

VycronDyz

Hmmm, The Blade of the Progenitor or Little John?

DCM

yeah That Name fits..

I'm voting for Talos, the ancient automaton of mythology that protected its home from invaders, much like what it'll be doing for Ashana.

Jedi Khan

That'd would be cool, have her rip open the hull and enter a ship.

VycronDyz

I like the Apex Guardian, cause it'll be an apex predator out there. With the manouverability it'll rip through a cruiser like tissue paper. Might even get dangerous for bigger prey, if it can land on the hull.

How about this one? Fólkvangr - the afterlife where Freya's warriors - the Valkyries - send their kills to. Or Better yet - Fólkvangr's Edge

Sharil a.k.a. Memeranglaut

S.T.O.M.P.E.R. (Sparks Totally Outrageous Mech Personal Exo-suit Reaver)

VycronDyz

The only name suitable: Dana's Devastating Dumpling Deployer.

How about the lion's HUNTER (Hydraulic Unilateral New Tactical Evasive Responder)

The mech's driver should be in some sort of suit to protect her/him from possible breach , they're in a vulnerable position as a target of ship based weapons &amp; a little extra protection is a valuable addition

bigdawguw65

I Vote for this one.

GeyserGod

FKWL -&gt; F(u)KW(ith)(al)L -&gt; From Karron With Love :) ..... UWS-v01 is also nice... but Tefler you know you missed the ultimate Mech/Gundam/Btech/Voltron bit: You should have the existing Paragon armor fit within the FKWL :P

Michael Buffer V2.0

David Shmilowitz

Like Valkyrie by it self , but as a alternative Cronus ( Titan of the harvest -usually shown with a scythe ) to mow down the enemy . Also since he's the father of the Greek gods if Dana makes smaller more mobile versions for boarding or ground operations you have ready made names Zeus (John) ,Hera (Alyssa) etc .

bigdawguw65

Valkyrie would be good

Patrick Raimer

Reasons: Female, unturable, mightier than gods.

Nekronom

I kinda think the Minotaur is a good name... those over-the-shoulder mounted weapons make it look like its got horns

Atropos

Nekronom

How about "Lions retribution" :)

Regulus, is one of the main stars in the Leo constellation.

Sentinel Pride gets my vote, the Snetinel for short

I like this one

While of the choices, I lean towards Valkyrie, I am of the opinion that a specific valkyrie would be more fitting of this one of a kind harbinger of justice. Perhaps Brünnhilde? Or carry over the Latin theme with the Invictus with something like Aequitas(justice)

GEORGE. Grand Engineering Overlord's Really Giant Exoskeleton :-)

Magnus Wittstrom

Throwing my vote behind Magnus for Valkyrie (one word). Especially since we all know John's not likely to ever pilot that thing, he's a one-man wrecking crew on his own. Just give him a space suit. :D

Lord Winter

I vote: Big Guy I also like Valkyrie but as one word only. Some other alternatives are: (Honestly stolen from movies and games) Amplified Mobility Platform suit (AMP Suit) Decimator Goliath Titan Doll Overkill Engine

Magnus Wittstrom

Saigo no Censure, The Final Judgment.

Youkai-sama

I do like Valkyrie, but assault or fighter craft are usually named for a bird of prey. Raptor, Falcon, etc. As a mech it is more a flying tank so maybe Reaper (thou shalt reap what you sow) or some other more brutal. Unless you really want to flip it in which case 'Tinkerbell' :)

Valkyrie but only one word

Mecha Streisand... Because Streisand and South Park.

Valkyrie, as from Jake's truck from "Truckstop Takedown", A great tie in that Tashana and Irillith will appreciate.

Old Cruiser

Crikey! Forget what i said earlier. The Avenger is more appropriate, given the names of all the other gear Dana has come up with

MuddMaxx

Should a lion theme be applied when it is clear he moving more towards the Malari than Terran in the future.

I like Valkyrie. I agree with towed that it should be one word. Also, you could get Faye to add a special touch of wings as it descends into battle.

I'm gonna go with The Arbitrator, because it sounds like it's gonna be damn fine way to settle an argument.

MechaLion or Thundercat, though Thundercat is too obvious.

Chef Marco

Obviously Valkyrie. The servants of Valhalla, descending on the battlefield to bring the dead to Odin's halls. (Although, in this case, the Valkyrie is also the cause of death)

Sindre Bjørnhjell

I'll modify my suggestion to be the Combat Ultra Banshee. That way it could be nicknamed the Lion's cub or the Banshee

That's pretty damn good

Dennis Aston

I would say that whatever it is named, it should be a one word name. Valkyrie or beast, or whatever. Just one word though.

Dennis Aston

I would agree completely but you know how these things go. Nobody wants to get our favorite author embroiled in a copyright lawsuit.

Dennis Aston

guardian angle

Now Brad, don't go destroying our new toys before we've even played with them! That would be pretty awesome though. Some kind of Lord of the Rings nazgul moment when that chick kills the flying dragon the nazgul does the slow stand from below camera shot.

Dennis Aston

Staying with the them of lions, I'm suggesting Prides Guardian, or Sentinel Pride

MJHSharkbait365

Who's read "Ready Player One", by Ernest Cline? There's a massive battle near the end b/w anime robots piloted by our heroes vs. the evil megacorp. Art3mis is piloting MinervaX, the female version of TranzorZ, while Aech is piloting Gundam. Of course, we could go with Raideen (piloted by Shoto), the red-and-blue robot (for Dana's red hair and the blue Maliri girls.) Or Leopardon, piloted by our hero, Parzival.

I like Valkyrie only.

Thunder, Thunder, THUNDER CAT HHOOOOOOO!!!!

Big Spark :P

Volt, Volt-Lion, White Lion. (Basically something Voltron like or derived . Maybe name it after the home planet in the anime)

It needs a roaring lioness hologram for the driver, like every other armored suit on theInvictud, and should be named Strike Angel, (after all, an Angel will be piloting it).

MuddMaxx

Going with the ancient language/myth theme for Invictus &amp; Raptor how about Talos? The giant bronze automaton from legend?

Cat's M.E.O.W. (Mad Engineering Overlord's Weapon)

VycronDyz

Dana's Strapon damn phone keyboards....

Dana on

Whoops, forgot about the Transformer

Old Cruiser

The Beast!

VycronDyz

Valkyrie, Vulcan and Hyperion are my favourites so far.

i'd say something similar to Nike winged goddess of victory but the shoes kind of ruin it. The roman counterpart is Victoria but that's a common name.

Matthew Walker

Pegasus

Sailor moon guardian (smg)

Also I liked the name of Valkyrie Fatale, as the mech of they decide it's a "she" would be the ultimate femme fatale.

Muninn

I voted for Valkyrie Ultra, but I actually think Valkyrie Omega has a more anime type of few to it and sounds cooler?

Muninn

How about Reds Rumble or just Rumble for short because its Dana Sparks baby.

Old Cruiser

OK, if we're going to go with latin names to match the Invictus and the Raptor, then two choices are obvious. The Vulcan (Roman God of Fire), or the Persaeus (Roman God of Destruction).

andrew finlayson

It might not sound the best but i was going for "Lacuna". Considering that Invictus means unconquered in Latin, i thought it should have a name suiting its purpose in Latin. Lacuna means 'a missing piece' and i think the mech justifies that :)

Sid1712

So maybe the mech could be called the Valkyrie and the call-sign for the pilot could be the descriptor I mentioned??

Those are all valid points to consider in naming the mech. Hopefully Tefler doesn't provide us with an answer here and surprises us during a chapter with his characteristic use of our suggestions :)

If, and it's a big if, Tefler has the intention to have more mechs and those mechs are piloted by his girls than the use for Valkyrie with a preceding descriptor might work. For example for Dana - Fiery Valkyrie or something similar. For Alyssa - Luminous Valkyrie. For Jade - Viridian Valkyrie. Something along those lines if my get my train of thought. And each mech can have a paint scheme or holographic emblem that matches the girls like the Paragon Armor

Lion's Guardian One

Really its hard to name something that you don't know the purpose of. If there is only ever going to be one, then it might be named as part of the crew (any name will do.) If it is just the first of a fleet of these machines, then it could be named as a weapon (i.e, Lion's Paw.) If it is going to be Faye's battle body for instance, then it might be a name specific to her (i.e., Pixie Cub) ... The point is that not knowing the purpose of the mech, any name is just a dart in a dart board. Is the mech going to provide ground defence, or just be another space fighter? Normally a machine is given a designation (somebody mentioned CUB-01,) and 'earns' a nickname after being battle proven one way or the other (wart hog, widow maker, phantom, crusader, etc.)

Please Veto "Valkyrie Ultra", just say it a few times and you will notice, that it isn't a word you are keen to hear so often. It doesn't roll of the tongue and thus would impede the flow of the reader. Something like the "Apex Guardian" is way smoother, besides that there are great suggesttions here in the comments.

Let's if I can make my thought make sense. Although I like the sound of Valkyrie, by itself, I also have other thoughts &amp; ideas for the mech's nomenclature. Considering that Invictus is Latin for unconquered I was thinking of something more along lines of Roman mythology/history. I also want to consider that it's Dana piloting it, so I'm leaning toward something female-based. It's early &amp; I can't think up names right now, but just wanted ramble off a few thoughts. Since we're grabbing from Norse mythology, maybe a few suggestions from Greek mythology should be considered as well.

The "Invictus Griffin" - Griffin has the body, tail, and back legs of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. They are known for guarding treasure and priceless possessions, in this case all the girls are precious to John.

on similar notes any of the first twelve Titans comprised the females Mnemosyne, Tethys, Theia, Phoebe, Rhea, and Themis and the males Oceanus, Hyperion, Coeus, Cronus, Crius, and Iapetus. Of these given John's/the girls views "Themis" would be great as it means "divine law" .

Gonna go with just straight Valkyrie.

Morningfrost

Hyperion. Ancient Greek Titan. "God of heavenly light." (Lasers)

Invictus Sentinel MRK 1

I like the lion's fang

Since Dana is such a cheeky character, a cheeky name would do. Particularly one which promises violence with sexual overtones. The penetrator.

How about "The Lions Claw" or "The Lions Fang" but Valkyrie is cool too

Jared

VOLTRON Seeing as John is the "Lion of the Federation". I thought a name from Terra's 'historical records' would go well here.

Invictus Sentinel

Lion Cub?

Wookey

Post.

CUB- went to hit backspace and hit pot

I like Roy Lewis' suggestion "The Lion's Roar".

andrew finlayson

They really don't have a need for ground Trans yet

looking for the acronym more than the name

Combat ultra body - CUB LOOKING

They already have a strike craft it's the raptor with its two new weapons it's a mean little shit

Since Dana picked a Celtic name to run with the Celtic theme a bit further I would like to put forward the names of Babd Macha. The name consists of two out of the three goddesses of war from Celtic Mythology. It also is play on words of Bad Mecha (Bad for the adversaries of The Invictus that is). The only thing that is missing now is for Strike Vehicle for the Invictus (I'm thinking along the lines of a heavier armed version of the ASLAV).

I like the straight valkyrie too

It would be interesting to see a full armored girl get out of the mech once you destroyed it and have to start fighting some more. Perfect for Thralls. Unfortunately I see piloting that to be very dangerous. You are a target of ship based weapons at that size.

I was thinking you would do something like... I call him Roger.  How else am I going to royally fuck them over, Babes? "Give them a good Rogering!"

I agree with Roy Lewis, drop the ultra. Valkyrie is perfect.

Or flip it around and make it Ultra Valkyrie or UV for short has a better ring for abbreviating

The Lion's Roar. To go with the whole lion of the federation motif. Or just Valkyrie. do you think Dane could make a sword for it.
