I am so glad you are alive!! I for one would gladly pay for each new chapter forgiving the previous place holders. I just hope that you and yours are well. I am currently reading another story and will not return to 3SM until I am finished with it. Hopefully that will give you a chance to get your feet back under you. Glad you have returned to us! I had written this story off to the ages. Glad I was wrong.

I, too, wish only the best for Tefler and his family. However, the points are valid: First, many are lavishing Tefler with praise for reappearing and completing *one* of the chapters he has already charged and collected money for (as an exception to the normal process of charging patrons for the chapter *upon completion* instead of as a promissory). Keeping promises and completing work for which money has already been paid in good faith are minimal expectations from a person of honor and common decency. They are deserving of acknowledgement of a promise kept, but high and lavish praise seems odd. Second, while he is not *required* to explain his absence or apologize for not communicating with people who were legitimately worried about his health, a simple "apologies for the unavoidable absence" isn't overly taxing. Or "hope to complete the rest of the pre-charged chapters, time, health and inspiration permitting". Some indication of an intent to do something beyond chapter 164, or to not do so. Some indication of awareness that people were put through stress and worry by his disappearance. I don't personally know Tefler, but I've derived entertainment, pleasure, and inspiration from his writing. I was honestly concerned by the thought he might have fallen into genuinely debilitating ill health or passed on. I was honestly hurt by the thought he might have just decided to pre-collect for a few chapters and then eff off with the money. I don't know from this message if Tefler knows the effect this unannounced and unexplained long absence had on people, or cares. I'm not owed anything (other than the chapters that have been paid for, which are collectively owed to the people who paid for them in advance in good faith, on whatever schedule they eventually arrive). But I'm left confused and saddened by what feels like a brusque shrugging-off of the concerns of fans and patrons for a well-regarded author.

Poor Matt. Tefler finished chapter 164 which is a positive, but you have to find a negative. Sorry for you. Tefler has a lot of work ahead of him and a great story. I'll take more story chapters over any explanation of his crisis. My hope is that our bard of fantasy is back in the cockpit with the time and energy to accelerate his chapter production while keeping the quality. I'm hoping for the best for Tefler and his family and the rest of us "pointless nonces" whatever that is.

This is my first post in many months, but I felt I needed to welcome back Tefler! It's nice to see that Tefler is well enough to write again. I'm glad you are feeling better and thanks for continuing the story. I like the story - well, except I'm not a fan of the Tom Walker side story. Personally, I'm not excited about all the sex scenes - and even less about the lesbian sex. On the other hand, the family aspects - a supporting network of warriors - that's cool. Some of the battles were great, even if the natural laws were bent on occasion. I really look forward to Valeria joining the family. Can you imagine the skill of a warrior who has fought so many numerous battles in the arena over a thousand years? Luna may be the better assassin, but not the more skilled warrior. Valeria should be able to teach John to be a better warrior - well, at least physically. John's not going to be the warrior of his potential until he flawlessly integrates his psychic powers with his swordplay (which seems to be improving since he finally dealt with his guide). I'm also interested in how (or if) the rock lady (Niskera) and the dragon lady (Tamolith) become part of the family. It looks like there is heavy foreshadowing that the dragon lady will be adopted. I think Niskera may be also eventually. I'm glad that the Terran fleet commander 'matriarch' (Lynette) is not getting her own harem of girls. Lynette whines as much as John. I'm looking forward to seeing Faye again! And what will they do about Athena? Then there are many other plot hooks that Tefler has made to continue this space saga. Again, I'm looking forward to seeing how the story develops. Thanks Tefler.

I suspect the reports re Larn's thrall fleet location are passed over the Astral Plane to Larn's [Rahn's] dreadnought. Earlier it was thought Rahn was hiding in the back of Trankaran space - no Lianelis Saevath there as the sensors were destroyed by Rahn in the Battle of the Heavens. And as Mael's warp gate was discovered cloaked near Kythshara the sensors near there are working... Just one worm hole jump to Kythshara at any time?

Yes. Alyssa started the worm-hole generator. But later, when the Galkirian fleets arrived, John took the decision to destroy the living/trading quarters to save the cloaked Genwynn battle station.

I take the lack of explanation to mean that it would take a full chapter to properly explain everything that has happened over the previous 5 months. Either that, or it was personal/emotional and he didn't feel like opening up a sensitive subject. Any partial explanation would only invite more questions. We are all curious, but I don't feel entitled. If you don't want to share something, I won't pry... Unless you are a member of my immediate family and it impacts me. The Patreon membership tiers state we are paying for chapters, not insight into his personal life.

1 - Being lazy, I won't spend the energy to look it up, but I believe John knows that Jessica isn't a thrall. It was a few chapters back but the expected blow up, when John found out Alyssa had tampered with Jessica's mind, never happened. He kind of introverted when he learned it and started pondering if he'd been too hard on them which leads me to believe there may be a reconciliation on the horizon. 2 - It's quite annoying when people withhold things from you for "your own good". You'd think Alyssa would know better by now but apparently not. She want's full access to everything he's thinking but can't be bothered to share something that significant with him. It might, like in this last chapter, unlock something in his mind if she were to ask but being so much smarter than him, he can't be trusted to make an informed decision.

Thank you for pointing out my error in that Rahn was in Larn's ship. So, I conclude that Rahn THINKS they are his ships, because he forgot he's in Larn's ship and saw this as a friendly, thus "his empire"? This actually makes the chapter even better. I am quite curious what will happen when John finds out the 2 big secrets Alyssa is hiding The first that Jessica is no longer a thrall. The second the partial vote, which excluded some of the crew, to keep vital and possibly dangerous info from John about the swords.

.358: a correction, oh mighty one, Rahn is in Larn'kelnar's old dreadnought, ....the Laranthyran black fleet vessels jumping through the Gate show up on that ships sensors as the good guys, since they are all Larnranthyran, .... Gahl's Empire, which likely was Rahn's old empire would still register as the bad guys in his dreadnoughts ship sensors, .... --- And that means that Rahn and Jessica are in/near the Loralar Nebula, near to Mael's old throne world of Kythshara, ... and might play a part in the final battle, ... ;-) ttfn

Rahn's ship is tied to the redskins (Gahl's empire) via the soulforge. Yet this section is put in when the Larn ships show up. Is this like a flashback?
