Kuma Dev Blog #49 - NT's Initial Launch postponed to August 5th

The team and I want to express our most sincere gratitude to all of you. You kept us going during the development of Neon Touch. Thank you so much for continuing to support the team as we work on something we love and hope that you will all enjoy as well.

As you noticed in the title, NT's initial launch (for Patrons) will be pushed back by a month and a week. To August 5th. 


Please allow me to explain why. 


First of all,


The main reason is that the artist and I miscalculated the time required to make the character designs. NT's character design process is drastically different than what we did for Milky Touch. 

It meant that the time needed to design each character was much more than what we initially anticipated. We’re building a unique style for Neon Touch and we couldn’t really find references or material to inspire us, so that meant tons of creating something from nothing, which is quite the task.


Fortunately, we are confident that the end results will speak for themselves when you turn on Neon Touch for the first time.


Secondly,


Since Neon Touch is our second game, we wanted to improve on everything. So we developed a new technique for drawing characters, which makes them look even more realistic than the beautiful characters from Milky Touch.


This new technique has been beneficial for creating new the new cast and letting the artist hone their craft so that each new character takes less time to build.


Lastly,


Lastly, we forgot about one crucial thing that is both small and big. Cutting designs. This is pretty much my fault. I was too optimistic when doing the schedule for the character design process, and I didn't schedule enough time for the artist to sort out what worked and what didn’t work. Sometimes, the best thing to do for a character is to abandon it and start out fresh. 


On the plus side, we have nailed the great majority of character designs as of today. Tomorrow we are going to start laying the groundwork for the initial scenes coming to the game.


To wrap things up, we want to say how we are hoping to avoid a big issue from Milky Touch’s Launch. A lack of content.


We decided to push the launch date to August 5th (the first Friday of August) so that we'll have all the scheduled scenes (at least ten, including animations) ready. So please bear with us! We are almost there and we are certainly giving everything out to get there!

Kuma, Thanks for the update and the explanation. I understand that the first release is critical to a new VN and I'd rather see you delay the initial release for a bit more than a month, not much extra time in the grand scheme, so we can enjoy the best first release of NT that you can give us.
