That poor woman. I feel really horrible for her family because imagine how guilty they feel, but the sad truth is, is that people will do whatever they think is best no matter what happens or how many people say they need help. Would you ever do a pod talking about relationships? Like you talk about best/worst dates, first boy/girlfriends (we all had a straight phase😂) What a great beerrrrrrf that would be.

I remember studying disassociate fugue states in my abnormal psychology course in college. It was capital f FASCINATING. It makes sense that it happens most in America. Living here makes me was to disassociate on the reg. Love your shit as always 💋

Big Witch Energy

No where near the same thing, but I lived with my mam and dad until I was nine when they split up and I went to live only with my mam. I was nine so you’d think I’d be able to remember living in that house, and I can, but I have no recollection of living with my dad. It was a fairly traumatic thing to live with him, and I assume I’ve blocked most of it out. If my mind has been able to do that I can see how one’s mind could literally invent a new persona and block out the previous one if it feels threatened by stress and trauma.

Plot Twist. Lymp is hannah but just forgot and had been living life as a drag queen in disguise. P.s this story reminds me of the film split with James macavoy where he plays a guy with multiple personalities would reccomend to a friend.

Picture this: my three-year-old son, waking up with our morning alarm, yawning and turning to me, saying “let’s start the shit show.” Never have I laughed so much so early in the morning. Clearly we’re both big fans lol 😂

So I’ve been to Saint Thomas during the hurricane season/ just after because the ship I worked on sent us home so they could go and be accommodation for people who had lost their homes (feel like a right div talking about working on ships again lol). We heard a story from one of the residents that somebody had been killed in a landslide that was caused from the hurricane, and other stories of people passing away due to the disaster. It seems really likely to me she may have died in a circumstance around the hurricane. Would she have recognised the danger If she was in a fuge state? The island is quite small as well so it seems less likely to me that she may have set up a new life on there as a lot of people seemed to know each other. Thanks for the fab podcast again!

Hi there lovely, Great pod. I think I may be able to offer some interesting perspective about the topic of dissociation although TRIGGER WARNING. Sorry for this book of a comment. I live with the diagnosis of Schizoaffective Disorder, just as a background from where my personal information is coming from. I'm quite open about it now although when I was much younger I felt like a freak and you couldn't pay me to talk about it. I have what they called, base lined and have been for many years. It just means I'm as balanced and as well as I can get. The occasional short bout of delusions, hallucinations and disassociation, no big psychosis issues and many tools to fix them. Brain chemical imbalances are an interesting thing. Not all people who suffer disassociation have problems with multiple personalities. Some people become mute or non responsive. For myself disassociation is quite rare now and the episodes are quite short, but when it does its FUCKING TERRIFYING. I feel like I'm out of body and I can't get back in. It's a very confusing state and a very, very vulnerable situation at that. For me I don't understand what people are saying to me, no matter how hard I try to focus (English sounds like gibberish). People who have witnessed me go into these states say I'm unresponsive and stare into space. Being hospitalized many times and for some long stints and watching others who suffer episodes of MPD is interesting but horrible. It is way more common than you realise. But most people have their meds adjusted and other therapies (such as electroconvulsive therapy) they simmer down and leave once safe to do so. But it's easy to understand why people do strange things when in this vulnerable, confused state. When well, you could never tell that people who suffer with psychosis or dissociation suffer with it, just another normal person walking down the street. This is why I feel it's important for EVERYONE to have at least one person to talk to about anything, now matter how strange. I like to say, Always have an open mind but not so open your brain falls out. I'd like to also mention that the 25th of May is "World Schizophrenia Awareness Day" so I implore you all to spread your awareness and stop stigma around mental health issues.
