UAF 0.8 - Developer News

Hello everyone,

I'm here to write ya'll about something that you guys might have missed from the scheduled sneak peek Starsector stream last week.

Some of you might've caught rumors that the next patch is final? That is true. I've told my developer team to assume that the Novaeria patch is likely to be the last one because there's no reason to further develop the mod. Here's what you can expect for now;

Mimic Bounty System

A special type of bounty only offered from a specific NPC. Its purpose is to provide player VS UAF without breaking our own lore and established settings. You won't be able to scavenge ships from them as they're.. well.. something off this world but you can potentially earn keycards and weapons from them.

More information will be available as soon as we continue on with the development. If you're interested to see the prototype mechanic in action. Please do visit my twitch streams every once in awhile!

As a bonus, EYESEAU will be more useful in spotting these mysterious mimic fleets.

Mei Yu's Services

We have acknowledged people's enjoyment and notes from our newest character, Mei Yu. Thanks to that, we decided to extend the interaction a bit more by adding a new quality of life services to the player! You will be able to use your keycards to remove S-MOD or D-MOD from your ship. A fine alternative for those who prefer to spend their skill points elsewhere or not having enough credits to fix a ship.

There is a bonus too if you use her services enough!

Project LYNX

Remember that shadowy silhouette at the Vermillion Station? That is actually a work-in-progress for Nia's story mission which would allow you to earn the one-of-a-kind ace fighter prototype! We will also feature a mini-game and a bit of a VN-style story telling before you get to the main prize of course, so look forward to the mini exploration arc.

UAF Systems Rework

To be perfectly honest with you, the UAF is too strong and established in the Persean Sector. It was made so because Vermy and I were still new back then and wanted to learn more about the game itself. So we never paid too much attention to it until now. So here's how things might look like in the future.

CAELI SYSTEM

STJARNA SYSTEM WILL BE REMOVED in order to reduce the amount of market the UAF possessed. It should make the faction slightly weaker and more balanced in the long run.

That's a bridge to cross at a later date for safety reasons. Fear not, I havent given up on that either but its better to be cautious about it.

Good to hear about that. While I'm sad to see this mod be finishing in development soon, I'm glad that you made this in the first place and I hope to see you finish this with a bang.

In the past some concept arts and discusssions had been made for a main quest line for the UAF. Something, to my understanding like a storyline for them. Is this still planned or will the faction be mostly gameplay with character/side quests for cool stuff rather than a full storyline/quest line?

RIP... but all the same I get it. I'm sure 0.8 will be a great end and I hope you can move on to build something new!

It depends whether I continue to get funded via Patreon and still have my trusted development team by the time we get there. Doing an equivalent of vanilla's campaign requires a ton of commitment and actual funding to keep my friends paid. Did you know I spent 2220$ for Solvernia patch?

No, to be frank - I've been wanting to leave Starsector for a long time. I have my own reasons but I don't wanna leave the mod unfinished either. I will stay for as long as I can.

The development might end there but I don't mind doing DLCs because let's face it, the mod is too damn big. lol Might do a pirated ships first and then some fan-made stuff if I still have the will to do it.

Next patch is actually the stopping point that I've been wishing to have this whole time. The point where I'd gladly say that I've done all I can with what help I could get. The objective is to simply have a playable mod with maximum replayability first, I can always tell the story outside the game. That way, I won't be emotionally tied to Starsector anymore because my beloved queen's background story project turned into a successful mod. Suffice to say, free me from this hell so that I can pursue other things in my life.

So if Sjarna will be removed, will we see Lafayette and Yamoto at the Nova Drive Yards or a different planet or will they be removed from the mod?

I must have also missed something, is the UAF mod transferring to a different game maybe? Or did something happen that means further development can’t happen…?

Will the mod still receive Up-to-date updates so it won’t break with new versions of Starsector?

Must have missed it, but what exactly do you mean by ceasing development? Do you mean after the next patch the mod is considered finished and cease development or is it just halting development and abandoned?
