Jessika's Diary #16 - January Development Update

Hello everyone,

Before we get to the plans for development today, I just wanted to mention a little housekeeping. I have been holding off on this until we got back on track, but I have now set the lowest pledge tier to $3 as per Patreon's advice, and from now on, all releases will be at the $5 level. The $1 level will remain available to all current patrons at that level as long as they remain subscribed.

With that out of the way, I want to talk a little about what we have planned to improve the game in the near future. Most of 2020 was taken up with having to rebuild the game, and then fix all the bugs that ensured (with the much-appreciated help of the backers), and while we continue to squash a few bugs here and there, that part of the project is behind us now., and we go into 2021 with a new aim - making the game more fun to play.

How are we planning to do that, I hear you ask? Well, let's break it down:

Branching - One of the problems at the moment is that exploration is a bit linear and boring, so in the latest build, now available to backers, we have implemented a branching system to try and make dungeon crawling a bit more exciting. This is at the very basic stage, but we will continue to tweak and improve it, in order to make exploration a bit more dynamic.

Pink Mist - Another feedback we have consistently seen from players is that they feel lust generation doesn't happen enough, so we are adding a new feature to the game to solve this, the aforementioned pink mist. Plot-wise, it is a strange mist that has appeared in the wyldwoods that makes people feel funny, but mechanic wise it will serve a similar function as light in Darkest Dungeon, creating a random chance that the girls will gain lust as they wander around the dungeon. It will serve both to increase your chance of seeing sexy content, and also add a bit more risk to taking too long when exploring.

More content for dungeons including a shop! - We'll be adding more content for exploration including more enemies, more objects of interest, and unique events that happen when exploring. The first of these will be a shop, with a randomized stock supply in classic roguelike fashion. In the future we'll be including unique NPCs to be encountered by travelling, special enemies, and special narrative events.

Gift based Relationship System - In order to improve the town experience, we'll be adding a new item called Euphoria that can be found when exploring, and then gifted to the residents of Venkmar in order to unlock new mechanical features, new conversations, and new sex scenes.

So, that is what we have coming up in the near future, but we also have lot more planned. We'll be overhauling the equipment improvement system to make it more simple, and Sommy is currently working on illustrations that will be used to start adding the narrative to the game. There'll also be more town locations, more NPCs, more enemies, more animations, and some stuff I can't talk about yet.
