Is there a new link? This one does not appear to work.

I am also ex-military (Army, combat MOS). I hated it and it hated me, but I would absolutely encourage my son to join. Just do it smarter than I did. Go in the Air Force as a tech MOS that doesn't deploy. Then get out ASAP and use the GI Bill to get a job that pays well.

Question for an episode: Nate and Joe, you, like me, are part of a vast family history of being suckers enough to join the military, what is the worst/most ludicrous battle an ancestor has been in? Follow up, would you ever advise a family member to join up and continue the legacy?

I'm too old for Discord because I had a goddamn mIRC client, but any interest in doing the Cultural Revolution? Asking because, uh, ~waves hands at the first month of 47~

Months later. No proof.

Well? We're waiting...

Great episode. One thing worth clarifying is that most AT weapons killed more tanks than any Air Force. Many pilots overreported their kills because they were flying at hundreds of miles per hour, dropping bombs and rockets that obscured their vision of the vehicle that could have been a tank/truck/tankette/etc., so they'd just mark up a near hit as a kill. Likewise, the equivalent of BDA at the time would sometimes look at a bunch of destroyed tanks next to bomb craters and chalk them up as aircraft kills. When you tally up an individual Air Force's claimed kills, they tended to kill more tanks than existed in that sector. Most tanks were killed by common stuff like AT guns, mines, and other tanks. Steven Zaloga's books, Armored Champion and Armored Thunderbolt, both talk about this in detail.

Well good news, that bot only worked on public chats, and Discord also nuked it into the sun via digital and legal means. It has thus far not come back in any form

I'd still love to see him on the show, but for different reasons now.

I am not joining the site after hearing about all the shady shit that has happened to people who join.

Nick Turse's work has been heavily criticized by academics in the field of military history. TLDR: He does not speak of his methodology, the historiography on the topic of US atrocities in South Vietnam, or an in-depth look at the sources used. There is also evidence that he discarded evidence when it did not fit his argument.

Joined. Read and accepted the rules, but it wont let me look at anything but those rules, I am reminded that discord is ass. Unintuitive is the polite word to use. EDIT: Fixed it I guess? I don't even know what the fuck I did. At least I don't have to use this shit for work anymore.

Brandon P

Ah hell, might as well. Had a dumb idea, think there's any chance you could get the guy that wrote "Kill Anything That Moves" on the show to talk about how US strategic thinking and ground-level tactics essentially created the perfect environment for war crimes? Or maybe just talk about "My Lai" and how there were MANY more "My Lais"? Not asking if you WOULD do it cuz that's a whole separate question but just, do you think you could land him?

Brandon P

Dispatches was my gateway drug to those two books and their author. If anyone is learning about the decades of strife in SE Asia, those books provide an excellent foundation before jumping into direct US combat involvement in Vietnam.

Hi joe where can i ask questions

Midnight

Hey man. Just wanna say as a new member, your cast has been getting through some hard times, which isn't pleasant considering subject material. I'm a poor Army vet, Arabic linguist, and am happy to be able to throw some money this way. I will throw more once I get a better job! Thank you, and all you guests and support

Joseph Hansen

Hey Joe. Halfway through Frontier Corps, been enjoying it. Having just finished Hell In A Very Small Place and The Street Without Joy, I really appreciated the subtle Dien Bien Phu reference.

Noblesse Oblahaj

We talked about it during our monte melkonian series
