Hey, thanks for a wonderful show! It has become my favourite! Quick question, where do I find the show notes with listed sources?
2023-03-20 10:45:15 +0000 UTCEvery time Nate or Liam go deep into various historical figures, conflicts and trends at the drop of a hat I'm always thrown off/in awe at how easy they know things.

2023-03-09 08:46:56 +0000 UTCNate was spot on Canadian History has a huge focus on Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele. WW1 in general is considered a defining moment in Canadian nation identity

2023-03-08 13:51:08 +0000 UTCI think he mentioned that he was born in Germany and learned German as his first language

2023-03-05 00:50:52 +0000 UTCI took 2 years of German in high school. It's an unlearnable language, Nate must be some manner of linguistic genius.

2023-02-28 17:48:54 +0000 UTCludendorff was literally the guy who invented the stabbed-in-the-back myth. once it was clear that the military situation was lost, it was ludendorff who had the idea to invite the social democrats into the government so that they could navigate germany's defeat.

2023-02-28 00:13:34 +0000 UTCIt's giving me flashbacks to German class and memorizing them for tests.

2023-02-27 19:28:43 +0000 UTCdon't try to guess the grammatical gender of german nouns, it's all counterintuitive nonsense that evolved randomly. you can get it right only through rote memorization.

2023-02-27 13:27:34 +0000 UTCFour monsters ( that I can think of ) of Tannenberg ; Hindenburg , Ludendorff ,Looney toons villain of mongolia Urgen Sternberg and lastly noted skull hat wearer and noted dad and grandfather of Nazi's August von Mackesen

2023-02-27 12:36:32 +0000 UTCGerman historians are currently having Historikerstreit 2: Electric Boogaloo over the continuities between the German Empire and the Nazis. If you point those out german libs will call you an antisemite, which is fun
Dennis Schmidt
2023-02-27 12:24:39 +0000 UTCWhen in doubt about German articles, almost all nouns in German can be used with the diminutive suffix -chen or -lein. Diminutive forms always use the neutral gender. In this case, it would be 'das Sumpfärschchen', or, with a slight accent, 'das Sumpfärschle', which sounds like a particularly disgusting local dish from Stuttgart.
